So I saw this advert for a car at an absolute bargain basement price. Can any experts give me a clue as to what the fault may be please. Thanks.

touch screen navigation, heated seats etc"

Sounds like it could be the ignition barrel - if it IS to do with Jiggling the key

The keys don't get worn.

It's an electrical / PATS issue which they've had a quote to repair, and can't afford to repair it.

OK, that's a good start. Is this a common problem? Is there any way to completely disable the PATS please?

Not cheaply, the passive antitheft system is built in to the ECU. But there are any number of reasons for the failure of the components.

Find out if the owner has actually had the fault checked by a garage and what the diagnosis was. It's not a problem you want to live with really, best to find another car.
