Budget mountain bike

hey guys , first real post in these parts so be gentle. Im looking for a mountain bike around the £200-£250 mark, any reccomendations ? Am i better off going second hand ?

This. I just purchased a 2nd hand one (2 years old, hardly ridden) for £250.

Nothing too much wrong with that Specialized, as a starter bike. The Diamondback is ho-hum, the Merida not too bad.

Always lots of Carrera Vulcan/Fury on Ebay: they're worth a look.

Or rather than risks associated with second hand, decathlon sports do some decent enough bikes in that price range eg Rockrider 5.2 (decathlon.co.uk)

The bikes mainly going to be used for riding up and down the canal maybe some xc trails as i live on the side of the mountain. That specialized looks nice and seems to have everything id need ?

^ looks good so just buy it (if it fits). In a year's time you'll be spending that sort of dosh on a pair of bib shorts

always check this site for YKYWT and SOTW, didn't know it had a bike section.
buying a scott scale 50, anyone tried a scott or this model
was looking at gt aggressor xc2 and xc3, around the £200 mark

Welcome.

Post a new thread - you'll get lots of advice. Primarily, I suspect, that £200 isn't really enough. But any bike is better than no bike. I've got a Scott Sportster and it's 'fine'.
