I am considering replacing my Impreza WRX with something cheaper to run. I cover approximate 16k miles a year so thinking that a diesel could be beneficial and I quite like the look of the Civic CDTi Type S GT. Just wondered if there are any owners on here who would provide a quick review or if anyone has any opinions of its pros and cons?

If previous 140bhp or 150bhp?

The 1.8 petrol also looks good on paper, economy seems good for the performance.

I did exactly this 2 years ago. Got bored of the diesel version very quickly and bought the Type R as a half way house instead, getting 33-34 mpg on 95 Ron.

I still want my WRX wagon back, but I know I'd get annoyed with the mpg again.

Is that an EP3 type r or FN2? At the moment I am averaging 26mpg so mid 30s would be great. Do you have to take it easy to achieve that?

I have an EP3, if you drive it like Honda intended you won't see anything like 35mpg. I don't do long motorway trips, and when I do take the car out, it gets used properly. I get about 25mpg or thereabouts. I could improve on that, I know I could, but I wouldn't want to, I didn't buy a Type R to worry about petrol and drive like a granny.

Its a 59 plate FN2. Most of my mileage is commuting, so have little choice but to go with the traffic. It does get the odd VTEC overtake and blast away from roudabouts, but not every day. If I didnt have to drive into the town to work, 35/36 mpg would be easy.

To put it into perspective, I got 48 mpg on the diesel version and 27 mpg on the WRX.

I bought the Type R because its capable of giving decent mpg, but also has the turn of speed when you want to. I really cant be arsed hairing around at 8,000 rpm everywhere all the time and neither it seems does any other FN2 I see on the road.

I've got a 2007 FN2 and can average over 35mpg over a 140 mile (round trip) commute at speeds between 65/70 with the cruise control on.
