Has anyone see the claim MCP motorsport make in this advert below:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

I quote them:'This car will definitely become a cast iron collector’s investment and will probably increase by 20% annually if mileage is kept low.'

They are advertising it for £135000 - so they are saying if I buy it and park in my garage then in 5 years it will be worth £335000.
If so I'll have 10 of them please.

Sounds like the UK banking industry all over again.............Nuts! How can people make claims like that?

A wonderful car I'm sure but ..... lost for words!

The 2000 miler at Dick Lovett was £88k. Couldn't see it when I checked, so perhaps it sold.

9 years old so will definitely need a diff rebuild, suspension refresh, and possibly £10 k spending on it....

Oh, and the tyres will be perished.

Doesn't look quite the bargain when you think about it.

Stunning car and what a find with less than 1k miles, however ...

The ad could be seen to be sailing a bit close to the wind with regards "providing investment advice"
Also I wonder who is guaranteeing this statement

"This car will definitely become a cast iron collector’s investment and will probably increase by 20% annually..."

Appears to be a very bold claim to make in today's post "PPI claim" world.

What's PPI claim got to do with it?
PPI didnt 'claim' anything. It was health/job insurance that was sold with a bank loan to people who didnt need it, or was conditional on the loan being approved.

Consumers ability to retrospectively claim they were mis sold/ mis led, when it later turns out to not have delivered the benefits they believed it would.

A key claim on the ad is this will definitely become a cast iron collectors investment.......if it dosent, I was suggesting as with PPI the buyer may be given the benefit of the doubt and could seek recompense.

Perhaps endowment mortage may have been a better example.........

still stand by my statement great car, bold ad

I dont think PPI didnt deliver the benefits it claimed it would. It was an insurance product - if you got ill/lost your job it would pay up. Miselling is a totally different issue.
I agree with you on the ad being a bold statement though!

Let's realise it now:

Once at my OPC I saw an as new 996 RS blue decals and ceramics. It had the engine out and in pieces to fix an oil leak. The only mileage it ever saw was to and from the OPC, and the technician said it suffers from leaks due to lack of use.

Of course the obvious question is, 'why would you sell an investment that's appreciating by 20% per year?'

I don't understand this 'delivery-mileage' appeal - it's bks. Porsche's aren't overly mileage sensitive. I'd rather see 500+ miles between *annual* MOT's, services etc. The best thing you can do for a car - is use it.

That is not actually true - a lot of people were mis-sold PPI as they would not have been able to claim.

And this!

Dealer is trying to justify his already monster markup by trying to convince others that it's guaranteed to increase in value. The advert should come with a caveat ... 'investments can go up as well as down'.biggrin
