Hi, we're looking for some ideas for multiplayer games to play as we really can't think of any that we'll find fun to play and not get into a boring game after a few hours, so far we've played -

Warcraft - we all got several top level characters, were in one of the top raiding guilds on our server, but now it doesn't show us anything that really entices us back

Star Wars the Old Republic - got a bit samey really, was really good fun the first time you went through the game, but the next character had to do everything in the same order, all the missions were the same, plus the free version has taken a load of the decent stuff out.

World of Tanks - this has been our main game until about a month ago, but with 20k games between us and gold ammo flying about all over the place, it just isn't as fun as it was.

Mechwarrior online - really confused the hell out of me, the lack of matchmaking meant us noobs were fighting top level mechs, not really understanding what was going on.

Hawken - couldn't get to grips with this one either, could play the first mechs fine but couldn't figure out how to get a game in the next tier up that didn't end up fighting against huge things.

WarThunder - comment someone was "seriously guys, you've got to stop playing Russian games"

Eve - this was supposed to be our great hope, but after playing for an hour last night one of us had the tutorial mission just bug out and not continue, I got ahead of the tutorial and pressed something before I was supposed to, quit the mission and it sent me back to the start, so it's not looking promising!

Even tried things like Commandos 3 (isn't as co-op as we'd hoped), Impire, Gemini Wars, Shogun Total War, but they've all left us feeling cold.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

How about some borderlands 2 or dead island? Both are cheap at the moment

Borderlands 2 should definitely be on your list. Awesome fun with a group, especially if you're on teamspeak or Skype.

Tried something like Battlefield 3 or Planetside 2? Set yourself up as a little command group, a well organised party can make a big difference on games like that.

As mentioned, Diablo 3 is good, as is Path of Exile (the latter is free and superior IMO)

MOBA games like DOTA2 or LoL are good fun with 3 of you, you'll just need a couple of randoms to make up the group of 5.

Payday - The Heist through Steam

Can't recommend it enough, great fun. More than one way of completing the missions. There are several objectives to each of missions and the game puts in some, all or the bare minimum.

It differs from time to time.

Good laugh with your mates up to 4 player CO-OP with unused slots being filled with AI players.

You can also set it to prevent random players coming in.

I play with 2 mates and and 1 AI. The AI is a bit of an idiot but that just adds to the challenge.

For £12 you cant go wrong.

I also agree with Borderlands 2. I have racked up 300 hours and still love it.

I know its an old game, but there is a HD remake of it on steam now, but age of empires, and play PVP 1v1v1v??

you can get a quite a few games out of it, as there are quite a few different maps to play on, and different teams of people to choose from.

OK its not a mmo, but still a good game.

or failing that,

diablo 3
DOTA 2
defiance
guild wars 2 (that one has constantly new updates and expansions to it, and its free to.. well, as in you dont have to pay every month, but need to to buy it)

If you want a fps game with a bit more complexity and scale i'd suggest Planetside 2.

A bit of a learning curve to know what to do, but i've pretty much stopped playing all other fps games for it.

For 3 people you can make a squad, or if you are new i'd suggest joining an organised platoon as they'll know where to go and what to do.

Squads are up to 12 players, a platoon is up to 48 players. It's not usual for hundreds of people to be fighting in a battle. It's 'combined arms' too so you can deploy tanks / aircraft to help the fight.

It's free to play as well, I think they've struck a good balance so it's not 'pay to win', all the weapons are 'side grades' so they trade one stat off against another. The default guns are good too.

One thing to remember, when you create characters make sure you all pick the same server smile

Call of duty 1 is massively tense with just a few players, one of the best multiplayer fps for me!

Starseige Tribes

Its old, but its also now free, and fiendishly difficult to master the trigonometry combined with the terrain skiing and jetpack management biggrin

add to the fact you can have endless scripts running to automate various functions and HUD modes biggrin

great stuff
