GT3 insurance - ex-pat
Discussion
Hello,
I live in India currently and come back to the UK several times per year. I'm thinking of buying a 996 GT3 to drive when I'm there, and also to keep for the next few years so that I can drive it more when I'm back permanently. The problem I've got is that although I have a full UK license, and UK "permanent" address (i.e. my dad's house) the first company I called said they wouldn't insure me unless I was UK resident. That doesn't surprise me a lot but when I said I could make my dad the registered keeper, and he could insure the car with me as a named driver, they also said "no, because you don't live in the UK".
Does anyone have any suggestions?

It all depends who the main driver is, based on who does the most miles I would imagine (or possibly the most hours behind the wheel? - interesting argument that...). So if the car will do 3,000 miles per year and your dad will do 1600 of them it's all fine. Even if that were bending the truth, how would they prove it? Who's more likely to drive more miles, the guy who lives here and has the car at home, or his son who visits sometimes?
Sounds BS to me. How would you insure your holiday car kept in France or Italy then. Plenty of those cases.
As long as you have permanent place of address and car is registered there then I would not see the issue. They have correspondence address, place where the car is kept.. What else do they need ??
Phone another company, maybe one which is less computer says no type of approach.

I have the same issue. Have tried to find a solution for many years. The first of the T&Cs states "I am a UK resident". I spoke to a number of underwriters. Their solution was to be a named driver on someone else's policy. I live in India currently and come back to the UK several times per year.
