2014 - No Camping

Hello - we've done 10 years in a row on Houx but will be looking for an alternative to camping next year. Can anyone recommend options for close to circuit accommodation that doesn't involve tents, mud, horrible toilets/showers etc.

we stayed in alencon and travelled down for the race in 2007/8 after that we've stayed away due to the chav element trying to rip open the door on my car, thank hevens for vag auto lock

Do what I did and do Le Mans in a day. Has the added bonus on not getting drenched/sun burned to f##k too and you still get to experience Le Mans

Next year a group of us are looking into renting a house near by.

Club Langoustine or Club Motorsport. You still need a tent but everything else is "plumed in" which nice hot showers and decent food/entertainment and no hoi polli.

I don't do camping, but both have been fine. Langoustine is right next to Tetre Rouge, Club Motorport about 2 miles south of Arnarge

Or Airtrack.

In a large camper, 4 of us with a site that has power, bar, restaurant. clean toilets and showers that you can't use until they've been mopped out after the previous person has used them!

A short walk to the village over the Bugatti circuit bridge and it's fenced and secure to boot.

Not cheap but worth every penny.

Only downside is due to st traffic out of the circuit today we've missed our tunnel and the next one a available is 04:21

But, we have a camper with beds to relax a bit and have just enjoyed a bacon sandwich with nice cup of coffee.

Why camp when you can glamp?

Ditto Airtrack. 4 of us in tents, 1 car. Not cheap for camping, but not expensive for a 4 day holiday for 4, and very civilised.

Depending on budget and how many of you there are you can usually get last minute hotel cancellations. There was a hotel next to the station (Le Sporting) avertising rooms for Fri and Sat at 260 EUR for both nights on Thursday morning. I got into the Mercure Batignolles with the Toyota and Porsche teams but it was 300 EUR per night! Nice hotel though.

I stay in the F1 Hotel at St Satarnin, great for the GBW and 20mins to the circuit. Cheap, clean and nice hidden car park. Buffalo grill and other restaurants nearby but no bar.

Only ball ache is getting into town if no one wants to drive. 20euro taxi each way.

You should try a private camp site, the one I was at, although muddy, always had clean toilets and showers and was within spitting distance of the track. Makes a huge difference, the security is also excellent, never any problems and a bar and restraunt on site.

Well worth the effort.

Start Googling hotels in Le Mans and check each against the tram route. Comfy bed and easy town/circuit access - just don't expect it to be all that cheap!

Did anybody try the Travel Destinations 'Flexhotel' village. Just behind Houx and looks to offer a good half-way between camping and hotel, whilst not being miles away from the action:-

And also stupidly expensive! £750 per person based on 2 sharing for 4 days??!!

Tents with Beds at Travel desitnations at Porsche curves was great.

4 man tent, beds, duvets, pillows, electricity, warm showers and clean toilets!

Highly recommended glamping!!
