I think the way Ninentdo have gone is extremely sad.
I give it another 2 years, they simply can't rely on Pokemon, Mario, and Donkey Kong (what we predomently saw at E3).
People said Sega were to big to fall.....
I know I didn't answer your question but as a Wii owner I'd struggle to see what that controller gives you as a new experience.

I had a wii, and now have a Wii U.
the controller, is definatly a good thing, as with, as example, zombie U, you have a map on the bottom screen, and it shows all the area that you have hacked the CCTV cameras in the area, and when you use the 'thingy to scan for things' you press and hold a button, and then on the controller's screen, you look around in the game 'scanning' for stuff like CCTV cameras to hack and other bits, whereas on the TV you are moving around a controller in the same motions as you are moving it in real life.
also, you have all you inventory on the tablet controller, and only have to press the correct icon on the screen to bring up another gun, or your medick/energy drink/other item.
you can also play the whole game on the tablet controller by pressing and holding the - button for a few seconds.
so if your other half wants to watch some s
te on tv like eastenders or britans got no talent, you can kill as many zombies you want, or kill as many reapers as you like as there is mass effect 3 extended edition on the wii u.
i am really looking foward to the new game by monolith software, codenamed X, its a cross between monster hunter and a mechwarrior game.
I really dont think nintendo will go under, what with the huge success with the 3DS. but they could have perhaps made the Wii U a bit more powerful, and easier for games developers to run there games on.
there was an article ok kotaku a while ago stating something on the lines of 'big games developers will only develop games for the Wii U if the Wii U sells more units"
kind of short sighted, as if there was more AAA games for it, it would sell more consoles.

I've got one, NintendoLand is a great party game to bring out, but you need a few Wii remotes to hand too. There's another new game coming out next month called Spin the Bottle that looks like it will be good too. Haven't got many games on mine, just NintendoLand, Zombi-U and Lego City, but looking forward to the Wind Waker remake in October.
I can honestly see them going the way of SEGA, licensing the games out to other consoles and platforms and being a software company.
The Wii was great at the time, because it was unique with the controllers. You could forgive the 'little bit better then GameCube' graphics because you could jump around and this was shiny and new. Then PS Move and Xbox Kinect happened, the Wii wasn't different anymore, and the graphics were worse than PS3/360. Wii U had 360/PS3 level graphics, and the screen controller. Sony and MS nip this in the bud straight away with SmartGlass and PS Vita integration. Wii U isn't anything different now, and with the XB1 and PS4 being x86, they're going to be developed for first and be a step ahead on the graphics again.
Unless they can get a Wii U 2 out of the door sharpish, it's not looking good IMO.

Looking at it from the other way, the 3DS is the best handheld console out there by some margin, the Vita being another PSP also-ran. I can't see why they'd stop making handheld systems since they're so successful at it.
Good point, I was only considering the Wii U. Yes the 3DS seems to be doing well enough, and they do update the DS platform regularly with the DS and DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL, 3DS and 3DS XL. Going by that run of every other launch being a new handheld, the next handheld (E3 2014?) could be something new.Steve Evil said:
Until they come out with a phone or tablet with a dedicated (and decent) control layout that doesn't require me to use touch-screen controls I'll stick with a dedicated gaming unit.
thats quite a good thought, but you still will not be able to get any of the nintendo exclusives on a phone, and I dont just mean like donkey kong, mario and the like, there tonnes of games on the eshop, like S/NES games, gamegear games, gameboy/colour games and loads of DSIware, which is third party game makers making games just for the 3DS or DSI, then there is games like fire emblem and monster hunter, both third party.I will still propably get a dedicated handhold console (or 2) when there is a touch screen phone with buttons and a control stick, because the mobile games cant really match up to the depth of gameplay and story as 'proper' console games.

Got to disagree there - The Vita is astonishingly capable and a joy to use, also it's not solely aimed at the under 10s.The games are great (Wipeout, assasins creed, Killzone on the way), the video content is fantastic, the store works, for me it's a mini Ipad that plays fantastic games, skype also works a treat. Always take mine on hols and long journeys as my sole device aside from phone.
Vita sales have been pretty strong, the problem lies in sony's undermarketing of it. 3DS has outsold it by some margin but that's because many have been bought by 'non-gamers' and most have been bought for children, all my nephews and nieces have them, no vitas though.
Why do you think the 3DS is the best handheld? Just having Mariokart isn't enough... I had a DSi purely for GTA chinatown wars, but there wasn't a single other proper game for adults worth playing, so traded it in.

As I tend to mainly play my 3DS when I'm at home anyway, I can't see a single reason why I'd bother with the Vita, when all it does is give me a poorer experience than I'd get on my PS3. Uncharted is worse, Assassin's Creed is worse. Then you try and name when the last big release was on the Vita, I'm scratching my head there, topically as far as this thread is concerned it's as barren as the Wii U. The only recent one that comes to mind is Hotline Miami, which once again plays much better on the PS3.

Trouble with the Vita is that it just plays poor ports of PS3 games in the main, there's not a single title on it that's better than the parent title on the big console. I know plenty of adults with a 3DS and the games you cite as kids titles are really ones that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of how they might appear. In the last few months I've bought Luigi's Mansion, my Mrs. has played Professor Layton to death and I'm currently draining the battery on a daily basis by playing Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem at every opportunity. All of those games are uniquely different experiences to ones you'd find on the likes of the Wii U, they're not trying to cram a big-screen experience onto a smaller system.

Ah well, very much horses for courses. As I tend to mainly play my 3DS when I'm at home anyway, I can't see a single reason why I'd bother with the Vita, when all it does is give me a poorer experience than I'd get on my PS3. The games you've just listed (luigi, layton, animal crossing etc) are very much kids games that I have no interest in, like most of nintendos IP. Seriously what is the animal one about and why do you enjoy it? Call me old fashioned but I like racing things and shooting things in the face with a bit of strategy for good measure. GTA games are my kind of thing, Chinatown wars was a masterpiece and all the better for the daft humour. Love a flight sim too.
Wipeout is identical to PS3 version and Assasins creed liberations (whilst exclusive to the system) is not a console port and plays the same as the ps3 titles. The upcoming Killzone (again not a port but an exclusive) is meant to be the killer app... WRC is fantastic, the F1 game was toilet though.

You may call them kids games, but I'd argue that more adults play and enjoy them than children. You only have to look at the games sites currently to see that everyone won't shut up about Animal Crossing. I enjoy it as it's a relaxing way to unwind and it keeps throwing new things at me every day, I've been playing it each and every day for nearly two weeks now and see no sign of wanting to stop, it's a digital form of crack. I'd say GTA was my favourite series of all time and I really enjoyed The Last of Us recently, I'd describe myself as a pretty hardcore gamer and there's not much out there that I've not played. Saying that the Nintendo games are just for kids is closing off a whole raft of fantastic titles because they look to be childish to you, that's like saying that Pixar movies are just for kids. The games you've just listed (luigi, layton, animal crossing etc) are very much kids games that I have no interest in, like most of nintendos IP. What I was getting at with the games I listed, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted is that they're nigh-on identical experiences to their PS3 namesakes, they just simply aren't as good, both got an average of about 7/10 compared to the home versions that were getting 9/10. I won't dwell on the absolutely awful Call of Duty port it got last year. It's a pattern I see across the board on the Vita and I couldn't count on one hand a number of must-have titles for it that would warrant spending £250 on a system, especially when I can find almost all of the titles better elsewhere.
Fair enough, you make some compelling arguments. Did used to enjoy Bullfrog's management games (Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital etc) so maybe I should give the nintendo a whirl before dismissing it entirely.
The PS Vita is a great bit of kit even though it hasn't reached critical mass of having a wide enough installed base to persuade developers to develop for it. A GTA game might just save it's bacon...

I've been tempted recently, more by the prospect of a secondhand Wii tbh (although, has the browser/app store of the wii u been improved? That might sway things, the wii's is awful). Two reasons:
a)I can't be arsed with all this 'kiddy' nonsense, what matters is if the game is fun to play. And Nintendo do seem to understand what makes a game fun far more that a lot of other larger companies, who seem to hinge on 'add more realistic guns/graphics and pretend you're making movies instead of games'.
b)They seem to be staying out of the clusterf
k that console gaming has otherwise fallen into. No DLC here.
