Distance learning PGCE

I'm thinking about doing a distance learning PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) alongside my normal job once I start later this year. I don't need the PGCE but having better teaching skills will come in handy in my job and will enhance my CV.
My question is: is a qualification such as a PGCE which is done via distance learning considered 'lesser' than one gained on a taught course?

Jesus H Christ on the proverbial bike! A distance learning course for teaching. It's hard enough doing a one year (minus all the breaks) PGCE anyway, but this? Presumably there will be some time in schools? I don't know what potential employers will think, but I'd definitely consider it 'lesser'. Stupid idea imho.

did you actually read the thread before you commented,l it's a lifelong learning sector ( i.e. work based learning) PGCE not a QTS for schools one ... I don't know what potential employers will think, but I'd definitely consider it 'lesser'. Stupid idea imho.

Well, yes. My point was about the sense/worth of distance learning in relation to a PGCE qualification, assuming an implied reduction of the direct teaching and, crucially, supervision.
