I work in IT and my employer requires that I have an enhanced CRB done once a year which I have no problem with. In the past when I worked at a school they requested my CRB number and proof of ID. In the last year schools have started asking to see my physical CRB disclosure and have taken a copy of it for their 'files'.

A number of my colleagues have been against this saying that there is no need for a third party to see the contents of the form. I do have some concerns over who has access to my personal details and have had some problems when I have forgotten to take my form to site with me. There isn't much information online as to if the schools can demand to see it, only that it is illegal to disclose the information to a third party and that anyone storing CRB information is bound by a code of practice.

Do my colleagues have any cause for complaint? As far as I can see the schools can pretty much decide who has access to their site and what the entry requirements are. If my colleagues refuse to show their CRB forms I guess the school can declare that a new disclosure is done for every person that accesses their site, therefore adding extra cost and time to every job and making us not competitive.

I believe that you're meant to have a CRB for each and every employer. A friend of mine does stuff for his church, scouts and a school. He needs a CRB for each

Even I need a CRB check... Im not sure traders class as vulnerable... some I have worked with as definitely classed as children though.

I have to take mine in to prove I can work for some reason, happy to do so just to get them off my back.

It's called a DBS now and employers can demand you go through the process if they feel there is any risk (they have to follow guidelines too however: 'An employer must not apply for a check unless the job or role is eligible for one. They must tell the applicant why they’re being checked, and where they can get independent advice.')

https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-chec...

If you don't like that you're only option is to not work there. Sadly, employers have been spooked and are often unwilling to accept a DBS initiated for a different employer so often demand a new one; this lack of portability is a pain for many employees.

Third parties have no need to see your CRB

your employer should issue a letter stating that their employees are covered.

You do not need a CRB In school if you are infrequent, less than 3 days in one go or say one day per month

Schools should never keep a copy of a CRB

However, you should never expect to go into a school without ID

that's what I've been told by the various agencies.........

I tend to be onsite at the school for at least a month so don't know if that makes a difference. I will speak to my employer and find out what our policy is, but I think it will be the path of least resistance and we will continue to allow our CRB forms to be copied.

What Dundarach said

The school should have a contract with your company to ensure that they only send CRB cleared people into the school, its unreasonable to ask for a copy of your information a suitable form of id should be fine
