I am just looking to replace the rear tyres on my '97 Chim 4.0L.
I notice online sellers offering these: 225/50ZR16 BRIDGESTONE S02 N3 JZ (porsche fit?)
How similar are these to the BRIDGESTONE S02's originally fitted by the factory? I thought they had stopped manufacturing them?
Or should I just go for a pair of Toyo proxies T1-R?

Somewhere I recall reading the Porker ones have a soft sidewall and are not recommended.

Try the new Bridgestone Adrenalin RE002. They come in 225/50/16 W and 205/55/15 W for the front assuming you're on the original factory wheels. Put them on my Griff recently, not a bad tyre although
I haven't tested it to the limits.
