New body Canon 650/700 or Nikon

Looking at getting a new body after playing with a 700d is John Lewis. Seems light years ahead of the 450d I've currently got. But I'm wondering if I go for a 700d, or stick to a 600d (or 650d). From my understanding the 700d has a newer processor, so probably worth it alone, as the price is only £50 or so different.

My other thought is; after reading about the new Canons, people seem to be going off them and heading to Sony/Nikon etc. I've only got a few lenses for the Canon, so not the end of the world to jump ship, but worth it? Also, I'm struggling to see a comparable Nikon body. What should I be looking for?

The specs are identical. Save yourself some money and get the 650D. The extra you save could be put towards some more kit.

The 700D is more of an update to the 650D. They actually no longer sell the 650D.

I recommend getting the 50mm F1.8 lense. Cheap but very good.

Have a look at maybe a 50D (even s/h) or a 60D. Might only be 15MP (18 on the 60D) but my word is it a step up from the xxxD range. Went from 400D to 50D this year - my word what a step up.

Pity I broke the 50D last week and am back shooting on a 400D again for work for the next 2 weeks.

Yes, I've read the specs are very similar. £80 difference for a slightly higher number.

60d body only is £600, and with the (apparent) announcement of the 70d shortly, I imagine the price will drop. I also want to swap out to a better lens, which is the more important thing here.

I'm not into buying this sort of thing second hand, doesn't feel right!

Even the 600d, which can be had for £370 now. Spec looks very similar to the 650d (therefore the 700d).

Digic 4 not 5
12800 max ISO
3.7fps not 5fps

Seem to be the only difference between the 600d and 650d.

The crop sensor Nikon range currently looks pretty much like this:

D3200 - Entry Level
D5200 - Mid-level
D7100 - Prosumer level

I think the D5200 is probably closest to the 700d but if I was buying now around that price I would probably go for a slightly older D7000. Great camera.

I was having a great run with s/h bodies until the 50D it has to be said. Put 10k on it in 2 days and damn shutter decided to lunch itself. But then - I had been especially cheap picking up a body with 140k already on it.

Having said that, I'm back on my s/h 400D backup body that already had 147k from last year, and now has probably another 30k in the last 5 days on it. Heck, poor thing did 8k on Saturday alone. (Even I felt a bit sorry for it).

My point is that s/h can be worth it sometimes Good luck with whatever you buy!

Well, discussing it last night with the other half, she concluded for the sake of £50 (a nights drinking, I honestly can't do 10 pints!) I may as well get the 700d over the 650d. 60d is too much in my mind though, and fairly old.

I bought a 600D recently, over the 550D, solely due to the flip-out screen. That makes taking pics at odd angles (e.g. low down car shots, shots over crowds) much, much easier.
