Exhaust differences early/late 4.2/4.5

Does anyone know what exhaust the late 4.2's would have? (mines an '04 4.2 so actually a 4.5 bottom end)
I know the answer is to get it up in the air and look/measure but I don't even know what the difference between a 4.2/4.5 exhaust system is. I know there are differences as ACT list different decats and so on.
When I bought my car from Fernies they tried to swap a 4.5 sports back box onto my car but it wouldn't fit apparently so when I do get it up in the air what am I looking for to identify it?

Err, that's confused me. I should have known better than to assume there was a consistent answer for a TVR
I guess I just have to get it in the air and measure everything!

So I had a measure up, I think I have a 4.5 system. Cats are about 390mm long and overall pipe diameter is mostly just over 2 inches (from memory). Does this sound like a 4.5 system?
I have plenty of other measurements if that matters.

So, anyone fancy selling a 4.5 system and or decats, Standard or sports?
