Missus has just had a new road bike and is finding that when going onto the downs part of the handlebars, her bum is lifting off the saddle. Not being too ofey with bike setups, what would cause this?

Seat position too forward? It does need to come back about an inch. Or seat height too low? At the moment she had a slight bend in the leg and pedal BDC.

Done 40miles on it so far, and she's finding it quite uncomfortable compared to the Carrera road bike that preceded it.

Thanks all.

Could be that the drops on the handlebars are too 'deep' and it is pulling her down slightly, perhaps worth measuring the drop of the bars on the Carrera and also looking at the angle of the stem to see just how much lower it is.

Disclaimer: I could be speaking bks but that sounds like what happens when my lowest point is too low on my bike.

PS You're the first person I've seen use the word "ofey" on a forum, only ever heard it used in the RAF wink

Too much reach (distance from saddle to bars)
Too much drop (vertical distance from saddle to bars)
Bars too deep
Seat too high

... etc. I'd suggest finding someone local who is more experienced and get them to have a look at her on the bike & advise. Or ask a decent shop to do the same.

Is the new bike a different size to the old one ?

This thread needs Pictures!

No actually it probably does to help!

All good advice so far, i'd line old and new bikes up side by side and see where the differences are, I appreciate the geo will be different but it should give you a starting point.

Funny that...

That's CPL PaulG40 to you! wink

Just phoned up the LBS and will be popping the bike and her in when she finishes work for them to have a look at her form. She was setup positioning wise when she bought it, but now its actually been used she's found her normal position is different so we'll see what they say and adjust.

I presume that's the Cube then Paul. Just read its off to the LBS but a friend of mine was saying he was go ing it hard when on the drops so I turned his stem upside, he's really happy with it now. Cheers C/T Fluffsri wink

Most likely smile

As I said I've only ever heard it in the RAF and for some reasons it really jars, especially when dropped in to otherwise normal conversation.

It's not rocket science to realise it takes the brains of an Archbiship to be au fait with your granny sucking eggs.

Yes, it's the Cube. LBS weren't too much help with the bum lifting thing but chatted through measuring points and comparing it to the Carrera's measurements. Had a quick 2mile ride tonight to test as trying out some new cleats aswell and it feels better. Basically going to keep adjusting one but at a time.
