After 2.5 years of owning a fully loaded PP C63, I waved goodbye to it today.

Great car but the itch of something else came along!

Still, it was the longest I ever owned a car for which is something!

What will I miss?

- The noise on start up
- The noise through tunnels
- The stealthy look
- The practicality

What will I not miss

- The fuel bills
- The MPG
- Constantly visiting petrol stations

The new vehicle - a 1M.

Can't wait.

I sold mine last month, miss the noise and pace - I am making do with my wife's Mini JCW so the mpg is a tad better and to be honest the Mini is more fun to drive around town.

Was the MPG really that bad? I've just sold my Cayenne Turbo and due to take delivery of my C63 in Oct, so well used to regular visits to the fuel station.

How does a M3 compare in MPG in real life?

My e92 m3 averages 18 mpg - no motorways, 26 miles round trip to work, mostly B roads. I have a c63 coming, so expect that to be lintereesting...

No, mpg was fine.

Lovely, would be great to hear from you how it compares to the E92 M3.

I'm guessing your grin was more pronounced during 6mpg? smile

I am just about to get out of a Cayenne Turbo so here is my 2P's worth.

I am constantly amazed by the Cayenne, brutally fast, handles amazingly well for something of this size, looks great inside and out (mine is black on black with the Turbo S body kit) and seems to be built very solidly.

My main issue with it is I just dont 'get' it. As amazing as it is I dont think a 4x4 needs to go that fast and I rarely use its power. It is too big to feel sporty so to me just feels like a 2.5 tonne 500 bhp rocket ship, at full tilt it scares the crap out of me tbh......... In an ideal world I would have this as my family car and buy myself something sport/sexy but cant really afford to have 2 expensive cars.

In the end I think I will trade it out/sell it and go for either a 997 911, Jag XFR or C63. Just trying to figure out if I should be compromising again (so going for something full on sporty like the 911 or something in the middle like the XFR or C63?). Just need to stop changing cars, this will be my 3rd in a little over 12 months and it is getting rather expensive!!

I had my 2006 Cayenne Turbo for almost 4 years, and had it on a maintenance plan for the entire ownership duration with Sports and Classic in Knutsford.

It is a lovely vehicle, incredibly powerful and handles absolute beautifully which almost defies the laws of physics for such a honking bulk. I could never get more that 15mpg from it, but considering that it housed a 4.5 V8 Twin Turbo under the bonnet and weighed almost 3 tonnes, I thought it was a remarkable return. It is interesting to add that the V6 and V8 (non-Turbo) also return around the same MPG figure.

The vehicle is very comfortable, and the standard air suspension is great, I cannot imagine driving one of the lower spec Cayenne's without it.

However, like Zanderman, I did not 'get' it either, I know exactly what he means and where he is coming from.

It's sometimes frightening that such a heavy vehicle is allowed to harness so much power, and that's the problem, you just don't seem to really use it much. No, most time's you are just cruising along happily.

I've come to the conclusion that a large 4x4 vehicle does not need that kind of crazy power, and that if I ever bought another large 4x4, it would have a fair sized diesel engine in it for sure.

I think a V8 Twin Turbo should be reserved for the likes of the Panamera, that I do 'get'.

Off topic, today I saw a diesel Audi TT, I don't 'get' that either smile

Thanks for your thoughts on the Cayenne, my thinking was this
i have a supercharged XJR and a grand cherokee 4 x 4. i was presuming the XJR was saloon version of a range rover supercharged and im thinking i could get one car to do both, supercharged/turboed very fast and 4 wheel drive. im not a fan of diesels and the range rover has a poor reputation and they still sell for £15,000 for 130,000 miles or more. So for me the only option i can see to change 2 of my cars into one is the Cayenne Turbo. there are much more options if i wanted to just juggle different cars.
i cant afford the newer jags or The newer mercs. i have a car budget of £22,000 and i stay within this, i can however afford to run them. i have never seen the point of 1 car only for a lot of money, when you can spend the same money and still get 2 cars that are good and completely different ( this is my stratagey anyway)
my £22,000 got me a Chimaera 500, Jaguar Xjr, Grand Cherokee and i still have change, my only caveat is that i get the lowest mileage version of any car

Some interesting stuff but for some reason PH decided to remove the quote?
Interestingly, I am considering going from a 997GTS to either a C63 or KN Turbo to remove the need for 2 cars. Thanks for the insight Zanderman.

I drive 130 miles a day in my C63 mostly dual carriageway, I'm averaging 19 mpg if that helps:-)

The new vehicle - a 1M.

Interesting - I swapped my 1M for a C63. It will be interesting to see what you think. I kept the 1M for 5 months and sold it back to the dealer. I've had the C63 for 8 months and 18,000 miles and not considered selling it once - it's got character. As for MPG, I got 26 out of the 1M and get 22 out of the C63 in identical driving.

Keep us up to date on your thoughts.

My thoughts so far.

I loved my C63, had it for 2.5 years and there was a certain amount of sadness when it went.

I will miss the sound, the grunt and how unassuming it is.

However, enter the new VO 1M - it is a live wire, handles much better than the C63 (I always felt this was a let down - the steering was always a bit detached).
The different power delivery takes getting used to but I am finding it a joy.

From a fuel economy perspective, the C63 was terrible, the 1M is much better - 47 litres gave me 280 miles of mixed motorway and London driving.

The downsides of the 1M so far - the seats, the fact it is manual (more tiresome town driving) and it is a bit more noticeable.

Happy I made the switch!

I'm just about to swap a 997c2s for a C63....I think.. Still not sure I'm doing the right thing, I've had 2 x 997 & 2 x 996, 2 x M3 and just want something different - oddly enough I went in to test drive an SL500 today and happened to accidentally test drive a c63 and now cant stop thinking about it.

Been useful to hear about the rattles and various other bits on here, anything else that potential c63 owners should be aware of?

I have come down a similar route to some on here having previously had 7 x 911s including the 997 C2S, GTS, GEN 2 GT3 RS and most recently the 991 C2S and a tuned Nissan GTR. I have also had an E92 M3 to which most compare the C63.

I have had my C63 saloon since the weekend and so far I find it to be a great cruiser, has much more grunt than the M3, mainly due to the torque available. I have also been surprised at just how well it does go at full chat, no where near the GTR but that is not a bad thing at all. I have not got any rattles even though I have the 19s, the car is very comfortable and even though it is very unassuming I have already had plenty of comments about the car. Having driven an SLS on the day I collected my car the one thing I do need is more noise. The car gives a lovely growl on start up and under full load but lacks a bit of a mid range sound track, that is due to be sorted today with some replacement exhaust centre sections smile

Handling is not bad but I do not feel the Yokohama tyres bring out the best in the car, when they are getting a bit low I will be switching to the new Michelin PSS, I have these on the GTR and they are very good indeed. Gearbox wise it is feeling dated, it is no match for the DCT box in the M3 or the box in the GTR. Changes are a bit on the slow side even in manual mode but kick down in S+ is quite good and of course Comfort is great for cruising around town.

So far I am very pleased with the car, especially as it has a full 5 seats. I tend to get bored with cars very quickly and thankfully there are a few more things I am looking to get done to the car to keep me interested and so far I cannot see any reason why I will not still own the car for a good few months yet.

Hi, I'm very interested in this thread as I change cars relatively frequently too and I am trying to decide what to change my manual 997 C2 for. A 2012 C63 saloon is the current favourite but I am worried about just about everything I am reading about the MCT gearbox. Is it just not as good as the (I think excellent) M3 DCT and is therefore still perfectly fine or is it the one really disappointing element of an otherwise excellent car? I'm test driving a C63 this weekend but you never really get to know a car until you've had it for a week or two so I'll not be much wiser.

I think you're worrying about nothing!
I don't think it's a disappointment. Granted it's not PDK quick but I quite like it and find it to be seamless especially when 'on it'.
