Does any body know if the TVR distributors are the same as the standard Rover ones? I am told by the garage they are the same (Ellejays is knackered)- but I thought the advance curve was different

I believe some were the same and some weren't.. (in true TVR style) something to do with the weights in them or somthing (which are interchangeable mind you). You can get them reconditioned also, however is the probem actually the dizzy itself or the amplifier module? ..these can often cause problems and are cheap/easy to replace.

Cheers,
Matt

It seems to be the distributor since the amplifier was changed and didnt fix the problem but on swapping the distributor it seeemed to rectify the problem. Reconditioning is an option especially if we cant easily get a new one.

There is a five digit code on the side of the distributor relating to model type e.g. 41615 A. I think the letter is a revision designation. If you let me know the number I can tell you the advance sepcifications for that distributor. Usually it is the OPUS amplifier that fails on these - there was a kit to mount the amplifier remotely (used on Defender 90 V8) which may be worthwhile. I use a Lumenition kit on an old points type distributor. I am in the process of modifying a distributor to give maximum advance of 22° - I run 9° static ignition timing on a hi-compression 3.9.

Hope this helps,
Matt

I would guess its more likely that the sensor has failed than anything wrong with the mechanicals, so it may be possible just to swap the sensor rather than go to the expense and trouble of replacing the whole thing?
