Drug and alcohol question

My daughter's boyfriend was on the lash tonight and put plenty of vodka away, however he didn't drink anymore than he has in the past when he has ended up pi$$ed but not paralytic. The usual 18yr old, drink a bit too much scenario really. However, this night before he went home a friend gave him some chewing gum and told him to take really deep breaths with it. Now we're sat here thinking 'what an idiot taking it' but, I think under the influence etc, this is probably easily done. The chewing gum was supposed to be a 'breathe easy' type thing. However, an hour later he's having convulsions, his hands go blue and he can't feel his arms. No sickness, but his head feels like lead. The paramedics have been and are quite aware they're dealing with an 18 yr old who's had a drink but have taken him to hospital and we're yet to find out what's wrong.
Anyone come across a situation where someone's been giving some kind of drug in chewing gum? We're trying to find out what has happened and I'm well out of touch with the drug scene and what goes around.

OP, I have not heard of chewing gum laced with drugs. It could just be alcohol poisoning? Or a reaction to the menthol in the gum? I'm not quite sure.
Going blue and head feeling like lead does not sound like cocaine.
However, taking deep breaths with menthol gum and being already smashed will probably make you feel sick!
Or he's knowingly taken drugs earlier that night or someone dropped something in his drink.
You can only speculate at the moment.

the chewing gum bit and 'breathe deeply' is a bit strange, might just have been a menthol one (or like).
but there are not any drugs out there you chew and then breathe in to get a hit, the only ones i know off that you breathe in with are ones in a joint/bong/vaporiser or any other thing that you have to light and the smoke.
might be alcohol poisoning, or someone might have slipped something into his drink, but i really cannot see the connection between the chewing gum and convulsions, unless the person giving the chewing gum somehow got a load of drugs, dissolved them in water, then reduced them and coated the gum in it, but i would say thats quite unlikely.

Well after various tests at the hospital nothing has been found & they're wondering whether he could be prone to seizures of sorts. Looks like the gum his friend gave him was just gum and was a red herring in the events. So no drugs at all & perhaps a reaction to the vodka. Everyone is baffled and he is very embarrassed by the event. He's a good kid who has just finished his A levels and out to celebrate the fact..I'd be concerned if my daughter was dating someone who didn't want to do that.

Seems odd to say you'd rather your daughter date someone who liked drinking than someone who didn't? If the worst came to the worst, can you look this guy in the face and know he'll a)be capable of looking after your daughter if a situation happened on a night out, b) be willing to look after your daughter if a situation happened.

ah yes, but those are well known to work, but coke chewing gum, is a bit 'out there' in terms of production, cost, effectiveness (or so i would think)
your mouth and tongue would go numb and make it v hard to talk, and if done enough your tongue would fall out and teeth fall out, aswell as it would be absolutely foul tasting gum.
the cost would be really quite high, and it wouldnt be worth all the hard work and cost and time spend making it for such a small dose.
no I have not done this before btw, just actually thinking of how it would be done, it would be pretty complicated to get a hit of coke decent enough to do anything compared to doing a line.
