Meh. Leave 'em alone. They'll either find their own way out or you'll let let them out when you take the lid off. Only a relatively small percentage of airborne insects are capable of biting/stinging anyway. I can't be doing with wearing stuff under my lid in summer. My road helmet is an Uvex 'Boss Race' and has a half mesh lining covering the front from the inside, but my old Met helmet which has been relegated to off-road duties has no mesh at all, and riding in woodland near open water, it's probably the one that would need protection the most.

I'm more concerned about the wildlife I inhale/ingest to be honest. Small beetles impacting the back of your throat at speed can really put you off your pedal stroke

I wear a buff and just let it hang down at the back to stop my neck getting sunburnt. Can you still get sunburn in the UK these days?
