New owner to-be
Discussion
Evening all,
Will be picking up the new toy next Tuesday all being well, and must admit to being rather excited.
Already have a few things in mind to get sorted, so no doubt will be chiming in on here from time to time.
Can anyone advise as to recommended insurers?
By the way, the car is a 1996 griffith 500, 60k miles and inspection today has come back all good.

Welcome to Griffith ownership - I'm sure you'll love it!
If you look at the previous page of the forum you will find a thread about insurance. I use Mannings and have found them to be excellent.
The Griffith Growl (the largest Griffith meeting) will be happening 5-7 July at the Ettington Chase, just outside Stratford upon Avon. It's a must.
Good luck with your new toy,
David.

Thanks all, very exciting motoring days ahead. This car has been one of the few cars that I've always turned the radio down and opened my window for as they drive by, so I will consider it a privilege not only to own but to be a part of British automotive engineering history.
I'll endeavour to upload photos at some point, and no doubt this forum will be a very useful tool.
Do most join the TVRCC and is it a club worth subscribing to?

For insurance it all depends on your circumstances so ring round. Mannings are rated well but for me were quite a bit more expensive, Classicline can be OK (but watch the small print re garaging etc),this year I am with Adrian Flux who beat everyone else price wise and have given good service so far. Some offer agreed value and others don't so decide what you need. There is a list of TVR insurers on the main TVR forum so have a look at the Wiki; very useful!
Re the TCRCC - I've been a member since I first got a TVR; Sprint is a good read and pretty well worth the subs but you get discounts on many insurers and parts suppliers so that pretty well pays for it - the social side is also useful and it gives you local knowledge re who can help and who to avoid so certainly worth a go. Some don't like it for some reason but its your choice.
Key thing though is to enjoy! The Growl is worth a visit - even if only for during the day on Saturday.

Can I ask who did the inspection? Was it a TVR specialist ? Hoping to be in the market for a griff soon (ish) Will be picking up the new toy next Tuesday all being well, and must admit to being rather excited.

Bet you can't wait! I've only had mine since Saturday and still can't believe it's mine
Hi Rich, it does not stop mate, this may sound like an anorack, but I still go into the garage and see the Griff there and think, that is mine, even after nearly three years! One of the ultimate boys toys!!
Welcome to the madhouse Winchboy.
We're a friendly lot here in the Griff forum so don't hesitate to throw questions out to us.
Try using the search function first though, people get a bit shirty when someone asks the same question which has already been asked a hundred times.
The search facility used to be great. Now its pants.
So the easiest way to search is by using Google and directing it specifically to this forum
like this
[your search words] site:www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing +f=9
its the last bit which directs it to a specific forum, so if you want to search the Chimaera forum (we do it just for a bit of sport now and again) you would use +f=8 instead. You can see these codes in the address bar when you go into a forum.
Anyway, enough of my waffle.
Enjoy your first drive next Tuesday. I hope it stays dry so you can get the roof off (we don't do roofs, thats for the Chimp boys next door)

George123 - inspection was done by a specialist local to the car who have been excellent and not too pricey either.
Again, thanks for the heads up on insurance. I've not worked out how to search apart from using google, but will do what I can to find out before asking the obvious.
Thanks again, although knowing my luck the 250 mile journey back on Tuesday will be a wet one so will be keeping a very soft right foot...

Afternoon all, not the car mentioned in the end but collected my new Griff 500 yesterday from a really nice chap in Surrey - his wife was especially upset to let her go.
Starmist blue, biscuit interior, 1997 R plate, 38500 miles and just a stunning car. Drive home wasn't the best due to the extreme heat and traffic but made it back incident free. Can't see me ever getting tired of the noise alone - just delighted.
Safely tucked up in the garage until tomorrow, and will try and get a pic or two up.
BBQ, beer and boring people with phone pics will shortly ensue.......this is one happy chap.

Just one thing, Griffs are male. Chimaeras are female.
Or is that two things?

Now there was me thinking driving a TVR was like the saying goes "All for One and One for All" Obviously not Or is that two things?

Being a Male Chimaera owner I feel a bit offended

.Also notice we are from the same region, so if I see a Griff broke down do I just drive past? Nope of course I wouldn't ... All for one and one for all

But I was told once or was it twice, to own a Griffith you need thick black chest hair, open shirt and a big shiny kind of medallion
