That might be a good thing or a bad thing depending on point of view.Personally I think it's a bad thing to have any relationship whatsoever between what were always and should remain two totally different types of racing discipline.

The continuing merging of the ethos of F1 and Sportcar/GT series racing will just end in tears for all concerned both in regards to fans who want to see a return of the best days of Sportscar racing like Group C etc before the Mulsanne chicanes and the specialist drivers which that attracted,but probably never will,and in regards to the ever increasing risks of Sportscars and GT cars trying to be driven like F1 cars.

The whole of this interview is worth listening to, but particularly relevant here is where Allan McNish talks about the pace driven at by Formula 1 drivers, as compared to World Endurance Championship drivers.

He says that there's no doubt at all that almost all WEC drivers are absolutely flat out, all the time, at the very limits of grip with no reserve whatsoever. He contrasts this to F1, and says that Hamilton telling his engineer "I can't drive any slower" is the saddest radio message he's heard. While you can tell he tries not to criticise F1 outright, he does say most definitely that WEC drivers are going a lot harder, more of the time, than anyone can in F1.

A good point. I did think that if Webber left F1, there was only one place for him to go - and glad to hear it!
