Airbag light flashing

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and need a bit of advice, so thanks in advance.
I have a 2003 1.4 ford fiesta and the problem is the airbag light flashes once, pauses and then flashes a further 9 times and when the engine is running the light just stays on?
I'm not very mechanically minded but willing to try anything before taking it to the garage.
