1:18 Ferrari F40 (Hot Wheels I think)
Discussion
I have seen one of these in a local shop and am considering buying it for a friend for his 40th birthday. It is second hand and does not have a box but, looks to be in 'as new' condition. Having done a little research, I am pretty sure it is a Hot Wheels Elite model.
They are asking for £50 for it - is this a fair price? A quick google search suggests that these aren't all that easy to get hold of, is this the case?
Thanks in advance.

There are a few 'Elite' versions of the F40 - usually in le mans spec.
The road going version is probably the most difficult one to get hold of although there are a few on eBay - for £50 I would probably go for it mate.
Although the Hot Wheels models are quite often critised, some of the rarer models fetch decent money - try getting a 1/18 458 Italia for less than £150!

This was conceived a few years ago when Hot Wheels first got the license from mattel (I believe) to make the Ferrari models. They had a 'normal' range of cars which had an OK level of detail and retailed at £29.99 upward, then the Elite spec models were introduced and these were supposed to be of greater detail.
Read into it what you will, I just think they had slightly different paint, occasionally plated wheels and the seats / interiors were flocked like autoart models.
The Elite cars quickly became silly expensive though, and it was around this time that all diecast 1/18 scale cars started rapidly going up in price. Gone are the days of the £39.99 AutoArt models, they have now more than doubled.
In other words, it's not a rare piece as such, but the price sounds fair...

Certainly looks like that one, the seats and belts look the same, which I understand is a distinguishing feature. Resale value shouldn't matter as I would hope he won't want to sell on a gift! For the sake of context, it's either this or a nice bottle of whiskey
I went and had another look this morning and took a photo through the shop window (below).
On reflection (and with a bit more googling) I no longer think it is a hot wheels elite model. It looks like a Bburago. I think it probably isn't worth the £50 they want for it (already negotiated down from £55). A number of reviews suggest it isn't a terribly accurate model.

If only my budget would stretch to a Kyosho - looks like it'll be the whiskey after all!
