Fitting fuel filter in boot
Discussion
I always wondered why would you fit a fuel filter after the pump and not before it? Anyway.....
I have updated the fuel pump and gone aero quip from pump to regulator. I am looking to fit an upgrade filter between the tank and pump but the area around the pump on the grif is tight to say the least. I am thinking of fitting the filter alongside the tank in the boot. Any reason why I shouldn't do this as long as its well protected?
Cheers

Normally the filter is after the pump because it's there to catch not only particles which arrive with the fuel into the tank, but debris from the pump as well. When pumps fail, and depending on the design, one can get pump material discharged towards the engine. The filter is so located to catch this. It's also better to suffer the pressure drop across the filter on the discharge side of the pump rather than the suction side - which could in extreme cases (i.e. very low fuel and thus minimum static head) cause cavitation of the pump which leads aerated fuel at best and pump failure at worst.
