Going to Silverstone GP

Down in London for two weeks doing a course, but i'm off at the weekend. I was wondering what I could do as a bit far to nip home for the weekend. Forgot the GP was on, so bought a ticket for the Saturday qualifying. My wife isn't too happy about this as she loves the GP. I've promised her a t-shirt or mug!!

Still plan on going to one abroad, like maybe what the gumbaw crew did last year.

Spa is ment to be excellent.... and from what I've heard, the same money as going to Silverstone even taking into account your ferry.

Today at qualifying was pretty mega. Set off at 6.05am and arrived at 7.30am. Drove straight in with no traffic problems. Parked car up where I was directed to, then had about 3/4 mile walk to go and collect my tickets. I had paid for parking, but was told if I gave my car registration, then I wouldn't have to go back to my car to put the parking voucher on it.

Went back later and I had a parking ticket!! Another nice walk back up to ticket office to get it squashed.

Price wise... it cost me £85 for the Sat qualifying ticket which was for general viewing and no access to any of the grandstands. Add in £20 parking and booking fees and it worked out about £113. Well worth it as I was only 1.5 hrs and 85miles away. I think race day was around £250 with a weekend pass £300. I was down here anyway, but if I was to add in £120 fuel bill, then it starts to get pricy. I don't think I would have driven 7 hrs each way just for qualifying. Add in accommodation and a ticket for my wife and then i'm totally knackered.

I would look at a mainland Euro GP in two years time, when my wee one is a bit older.

I remember seeing an article on t'internet with all the relative costs of every GP ranked and the UK was amongst the most expensive.

Personally, I'd love to go to Monza, Nurburgring or Spa for my first GP. I remember seeing Valencia was anmongst the cheapest to go to.

Went to Barcelona one year with a dozen mates and it was surprisingly good value. went on a week long package deal which included qualifying race and week in a all inclusive hotel. So after gp we just got pissed for a week and all for a fraction of Silverstone costs.
