Vixen S3.

I have just fitted the rear window as part of my rebuild, and after a bit of a struggle, got the window in the seal all the way around. Am I very lucky in having a Triplex glass rear window ? Haven't put the lockstrip in yet, it took my fingers about 6 weeks to recover from doing the windscreen !

Anyway I noticed that one rear corner appears high, the other slightly low, although the roof line looks very good. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar on their Vixen (or M, which I believe have same screen).

I was wondering if it's perhaps down to the body moulding ? I wouldn't be surprised if it's slightly out. I had a [cracked] perspex screen in originally so can't compare, and I also had to do some rebuild on rear corner, but not up to the screen, just around the rear light, but still, I wonder.....

Anyone notice a slight difference in height (screen to body) ?? Thanks

Get yourself one of these to fit the insert. Makes it really easy.

Re the high corner, I'd think it's more likely that the rubber / screen isn't seated correctly at that point, than the shell being out of true. Perhaps a photo would help.

Thanks Adrian - glass at the drivers side rear corner is slighty higher than the body, pass side corner slightly lower.

Seal IS seated correctly - checked that (several times)... I guess the lockstrip might correct it, but thought I would ask first.

Moto - thanks for the link - I'll buy one of those !!

This is mine 1972 TVR Vixen S3 with glass rear screen. I took it out for restoration/respray and it took me about 20 minutes to put it back in. Maybe this pictures helps.

The roof line on my S2 is p*ssed. In mine the passenger side appears to be higher. I just put it down to good old TVR DNA! I will find out when I try and refit the screens.

S3 and S4 vixens were produced from new moulds and have a different lower finish, The S2 vixen has a slightly twisted rear end, drivers side sits lower than passenger side because the moulds were heavily used, being the most produced vixen of the period.

The S3 in the picture is very straight.

Andy, mine is an S3 also with Triplex glass rear screen. I've just studied the rear and can see no difference to either side. Although taken on a slight angle, this is how mine looks.

Removing and refitting was pretty easy with no drama's. Only wish I'd used a sealant as I get a very slight seepage of water through the low corners when it rains. I have since told that using a new rubber would have avoided this as old rubber does not re-bend as well.

Thanks Guys, and for the photos - But....

You remember the title ? Well the difference on mine probably could not be seen on an equivalent photo to those here, only when really close (like with fingers) does it become noticeable. I reckon there's only about 6mm (3 mm each side) or so difference, but I too was worried about the seal and how waterproof, and how secure the screen will be.

I also did notice mine does look to be repaired/built up slightly on theose corners (i.e to make the hole smaller). I understand some companies shaved the body when fitting perspex screens ? could just be a rumour.

Perhaps I should not worry and just add some sealant under the flap...I do notice that I can just see some of the headlining in a couple of spots, as the body 'slot' in the rubber isn't very deep....and so water could seep in that way....
