New Tvr will be between £50-£80k
Discussion
I'm looking forward to it too. One thing I am wrestling with though, is the fact that after so long with no cars being made and all the staff dis-banded, is this really any different to any small volume, start-up, British sports car manufacturer. I don't want to take anything away from it, I just hope they are able to capture that indefinable spirit of TVR.

You’re very keen on Le Mans. Will TVRs race there again?
“We’d be foolish if it wasn’t on the radar. But it isn’t at the top of our priority list. Top of the list is re-establishing the brand in the eyes of sports car lovers. But TVR has history at Le Mans and I’d love to build on that.”

£50k is a very difficult price point surely? Can a dealer margin and VAT be included in such a figure? Maybe cars could be sold direct, so eliminating dealers.
Stick the factory in the middle of the UK and let us go there to buy. When I was looking at a Radical it was a huge thing to go to where they are built and see all facets from raw materials to showroom product. I loved the experience and its made me a true Radical fan although sadly not an owner as I'd never have the time to use it. I think that the atypical TVR owner would rather this experience than going to a glitzy showroom staffed by slugs in nylon.

Home grown preferably for me but deffo not an LS or any other US engine, british at best, European if needed.
IMHO Jag V8 is to refined, in my car I don't even know it is running without looking at the tacho and only revs to a not very sporting 6K.
Try it in a Bowler. IMHO Jag V8 is to refined, in my car I don't even know it is running without looking at the tacho and only revs to a not very sporting 6K.

Like most engines it is what you program it to be. Change the cam and the map and you could make it into a rough beast of an engine.

Very good idea imho as also and obviously this would allow more of the purchase price to be spent on actual car parts with such a direct approach and the saving would make the difference between being able to put a V8/S6 in a car vs a V6/4 pot !I think that the atypical TVR owner would rather this experience than going to a glitzy showroom staffed by slugs in nylon.
But at this price range, what engine could be included in a £50k car? If a 4 pot G40 is £40k, then can is a TVR do-able with a meatier engine plus TVR level of interior !?

Assume it costs about £20-£25 to build (optimistic), once you start with a larger car, bigger engine, stronger parts and the expected TVR interior I would have though it quite easy to cost another £20+ on top.
But, leather can be an option, as can the big engine and other things.
They'll use a donor engine it would be bonkers to use anything else until they're established
bear in mind they may have the name but they're essentially starting from scratch
and a LS3 / 7 etc is an excellent candinate for this because its small, cheap and powerful and already passes california emmissons regs plus its sounds right and offers a wealth of tuning for those so inclined
a jag V8 will cost a lot more and is considerably bigger so making it difficulto to build a small and more importantly light car
if they can do a 500bhp V8 coupe that comes in at 1100Kg they'll have done very well and woudl have the right kind of feel for a modern TVR

Good question. The Ginetta is a fantastic car but you can see clearly how it's been built to the price.

Unless specifically designing as a lightweight 7-a-like-chassis I don't suppose at the rolling chassis level there is much extra expense (asuming everything is designed/specced properly) apart from the actual transmission itself? An example is staying with the Tremec gearbox family, some very similar gearboxes are half the price of other units because they have odd gear ratios (which probably wouldn't bother the average driver). Quirks like this help as meaning a normal car can be the best value for money with the option of non compromised options for "S" versions.Assume it costs about £20-£25 to build (optimistic), once you start with a larger car, bigger engine, stronger parts and the expected TVR interior I would have though it quite easy to cost another £20+ on top.

From seeing enough modified V8 RWD cars it does seem that uprated transmission components are needed when heading well over 500bhp (which I wonder if even a top future TVR would reach?)
I am of course speculating here at the level of greatest simpleness as I don't know prices of engines such as Jag V8's and ZF gearboxes
