Defender Spare Wheel Swing Carrier
Discussion
Some advice needed please .....!
Recently got a new Defender
and the spare wheel is on the rear door (like a million other Defenders), the damn thing is huge and weighs a tonne. Someone else on Piston Heads mentioned that the door would sag and to get a spare wheel carrier ....
I have only had the car some 4 weeks and the rear door is getting stiffer and stiffer
well whoever you were, to said it would sag ..... looks like you were right ...
I don't want to re-invent the wheel (please ignore the pun), can anyone please advise on the best wheel carrier to get. There is an issue though, I have on order (from Simmonites) some Terrafirma rear bumperettes, so what ever the wheel carrier I get, needs to fit around the bumperettes.
Can anyone please advise on a good quality cost effective rear wheel carrier that will not get my door sagging.....!

Is it a 110 you've got?
You could always mount in the in rear load bay I suspect instead, provided you don't mind the lost interior space.
As for the sagging door, well yes. But it won't break. There are Landy's out there using the same hinges that have had spare wheels hanging off them for 40-50 years.

Yes, it is a 110. I can't afford to lose the load space, and I might just adjust the door catch, but I'd rather have a swing arm spare wheel holder, but not sure if the thing will fit around the Terrafirma Bumperette ......
