tiagra vs ultegra hubs

Hi all, I currently have a mavic open pro 36h rear wheel on an ultegra hub which I bought second hand about 4 years ago, so is at least 5years old probably more. It is in need of replacement as a spoke has pulled through the rim and its miles out of true. I've spoken to a few local bike shops who's prices range from £85-£100 to rebuild on the exhausting hub with new mavic open pro rims and ss double butted spokes or for £90 and zero downtime versus about 3days I could have the same setup on a tiagra hub. So my question is which is better an ultegra hub that's 5years old or a brand new tiagra hub?

The Tiagra might have some of the older Ultegea hubs tech (Shimano trickle down). But, if the hubs in good nick (check the cups) then save your money. Just because its not shiny and new doesn't mean it's suddenly rubbish

How do I check the cups? I've never serviced the hub, or anything else for that matter I just run the chain through a cleaner and lube it when the chain line gets noisy. Also no money saving well £5 more for new hub but I'd save that over the 3days taking the car to work if I get a rebuild.

Sorry, my bad: I misread the price difference.

Either way, open up the hubs, and if the bearing races are smooth and clean, and not pitted, etc, you're laughing. (Maybe) new bearings, fresh grease, and enjoy. If you're not sure, ask the bike shop (on the assumption they're trustworthy).

Cheers for that I'll have a look this weekend and see what's what then take it from there.
