Locating a RZ/RD500 engine.
Discussion
I have a major two stroke GP replica itch that needs scratched.
I have a VJ22 RGV at the moment that I have considered converting using all the Mark Dent kit.
I have my eye on an RG engine at the moment but I think I would really like to do a YZR instead as I just think they look better and I like Yamahas.
Also, it might be cheaper to go down the YZR route.
Anyway I'm rambling a bit.
Am I right in thinking that RD engines are cheaper to buy and easier to get a hold of as there were loads of RZs sold?
I have been looking but can't see much, just some barrels and a short block in Germany.
Anybody got one in the back of their shed that they don't want anymore?

Selling an RZV500 engine I was intending to build
into a YZR project, but it's no longer required.
Bought a few years back and not really been out of
the box since.
I also have carbs, loom, PV controller, PGM which
I can include if sold for the asking price.
Looking for 1750 + shipping
Will ship international, please contact me for
quotes.

My mate's just bought an RD500 off Ebay, only picked it up yesterday and he's already eyeing up Lomas pipes and an RZV bodykit!
Have you tried the RD forums for an engine?

Are you thinking of putting the RZ into the VJ22 frame??
If so, don't!! It's nigh in impossible to fit and is way down on power comapered to the RG motor. Was never Yamaha's best effort that V4. There was a lot of discusion on this matter a while back on a forumi forget, but the upshot was it's a biatch.
The RG is still a job to fit into the VJ frame, but thankfully people like M Dent know what they're doing.

No, I have my eye on a 3ma frame etc, I am planning on using NK Racing parts. If so, don't!! It's nigh in impossible to fit and is way down on power comapered to the RG motor. I do think it's a bit odd how people mix manufacturers, IMO it should all be the same.
If your serious about getting an engine Rich, your best off joining the RD and 2 Stroke forums, many of these things are sold "under the radar" before they reach the likes of eBay.
Theres a few RD/RZ500 owners on here for starters.

It wont be cheap thou, an RG engine with carbs and loom sold for nigh on £5,000 recently, I cant see the RDs being much cheaper, almost anything for the 500's is now rare as rocking horse dung, as this tank proves.

In fact , it'd probably work out more cost effective to buy a complete running bike for the engine alone and break the rest of it, not that id agree with it but its your ££.
Could just say sod it and buy this beauty thou !

It appears a lot of the RD/RZ info seems to be from across the pond, where they all seem to be obsessed with seeing how many different types and sizes of jets and needles they can fit.
