The old girl scrubs up well
Discussion
Picked this up from JZM a fortnight ago, 1st chance I`ve had today to pull it out of the garage and wash the muck off from its trip home.
I wasn't really looking for a Mk1, had my heart set on Mk2 for some reason.
It drives really well and has a great feel good factor about it, steering is nice and direct (and much lighter than my Exige S), suspension`s surprisingly supple at low speed and it sounds fantastic ! Just need to try not to put too many miles on it !!
Has a few mods fitted :
KW V3`s
Mk2 front brakes
Cargraphic headers, 100 cell cats and rear boxes
Single mass flywheel
Short shif kit (very "notchy")
HID kit
Bumper mesh
Becker sat nav
..........and rear seatbelts !
Came with a lot of invoices, every MOT, original sales brochure and I found one of the old owners from 2005-08 on here who founded Total 911. Just waiting for some back copies of the mag.
The sills could do with a repaint at some point and I might remove the rear belts, other than that its seems in very good condition - there`s a couple of stone chips on the bonnet, one on the bootlid and one on the roof but they`ve all feen filled with paint and pretty hard to spot unless your washing the car. Certainly doesn`t look or feel like a 14yr old car that's done 65K.

Still got the Exige and I'd love to keep it for track days but its going to have to go, I'll replace it with a cheap E46 M3 I think.
The Exige is running the Cup 260 software, LSD and lots of Motorsport parts so pretty focused really. On a dry well sighted road, I don't think anything would touch it - it's the polar opposite to how you think it will feel being low, small and noisy. It feels like your only doing 60 at over 100, you almost feel invinscible but I'm tired of climbing in and out. Its tiring on long journeys and it makes me feel car stick if I'm out on track too long without a break (maybe its just my fitness ;-)) but it gets very hot and claustrophobic.
It's not so much fun in the wet (I'm on AO48's) while outright grip is still quite high I think, you feel every change in surface and grip and its a little unnerving until you learn to drive through it.
Hope I'm not tempting fate here but I'm amazed at how much more controllable the GT3 is beyond the limit, maybe it's the longer wheelbase or that the steering's much lighter ? I'll resist trying it at higher speeds though until I'm more familiar with the weight at the back !

Interesting . At brands Thursday nite I jumped into an Exige I'd hired for someone that had been set up by Track-Club and the steering was way lighter and direct compared to my car so I see what you're saying . The suspension upgrade to the Exige is circa 2k plus Geo is the story and I'd love to spend it on my car as like you I feel for such a small car the steering is heavy. As for noisy it doesn't bother me but a pal has tinnitus and he's hating it. I have air con so long journeys are bearable, 4 of us recently went to spa in Exiges, but I wouldn't want it as an everyday car. As for track days the consumable costs are brilliant which is why I'll keep it and use it as intended and the getting in and out is Ok ish but time will tell how long that lasts. I looked at the new V6 but thought I'd dip my toe in first.
I'm with you though ultimately and have been a 911 man for 20yrs so I'm gonna run one alongside the Exige. The V6 at 60k is lots of cash to spend on a toy car.
Good to hear your thoughts
My advice would be to stay sensible with the exhaust. I have a TRD air box, Decat and stage 3 exhaust, the pops and bangs are great and I can make it happen at will - this is funny when you drive past a pensioner or something but I don't have the touring pack so there's no sound proofing. Ear plugs are needed or else it's as iff you've just left a superclubvat 6am when you get out.
The A/C works surprisingly well, if you still have the standard radiator I'd put it top of the mod list before the end caps fail, mine dropped its guts in Strasbourg last year on a bank Holliday weekend and had to be relayed home (car was less than 3yrs old too) - I finished up in a rental Golf for the rest of the Black Forest / Alps trip.
I've enjoyed my 2.5yrs with it, it's massively improved my driving and if I ever have a much bigger garage, I'm sure I'd have another for the odd blast.

Thanks guys.
Car ran perfectly at the track last night, I managed to park over a pool of fluid dropped by another car in the holding area which raised a few eyebrows (and frightened the s
t out of me !) but of course, it was nothing to worry about.
The brakes felt nice and sharp all evening and the discs look much healthier now they`ve cleaned themselves up. I was surprised by its pace really, I wouldn`t say it "feels" massively quick but it`s deceiving - the speedo tells me I`m 6-7mph faster along the main straight compared to my 275HP Exige, which I would never have believed !
The car feels perfectly at home on track with little roll, no understeer that I could find and a touch of oversteer that's quite easy to hold onto. Tyres are 4yr old PS2s at the minute, some proper track rubber would obviously be a big improvement but I don`t think I`ll bother as I wont see the track much in it - maybe some Pilot Super sports would be a good compromise ?
Perhaps I`m getting old but it seems just as happy to bumble along a country road, crackling and popping on downshifts - certainly puts a smile on my face anyway. Isn`t it strange how an older car can seem to have a character that's missing in new cars. I guess you could say, I`m smitten !
