Brick Lane area curry

OK I have a couple of friends coming down to London in two weeks time who want to experience Brick Lane. Now my general experience of Brick Lane has never been great with average curry at best. Usually if I am in that area I cross over the Whitechapel Road and go to Tayaabs, Recently though they seem to be getting some awful reviews. So.....

Is Tayaabs going down hill?

Where is best for real authentic food in the area?

What about Needoo?

Not a smart restaurant by a long stretch but Needoo on New Road is pretty good, have the dry lamb it's excellent.

Lahore Kebab House on Commercial Road j/w Umberston Street is good too.

Really ? Really really ? Just the Commercial Road one or the whole chain ? I know the Olympia one closed.

I can't see any awful reviews online. I guess it's a bit of a victim of its own success though - I have a mate who lives just round the corner, and despite it having doubled or maybe tripled in size in the last few years it's always rammed to the rafters. I still think the lamb chops are worth the wait though.

Other than that I had a thoroughly acceptable meal at Standard Balti on Brick Lane.
