Does it work?
Having just done a recce for an event I'm running next year, we ended up driving for almost 3 hours on de-restricted Autobahn and for 50% of that time, the Diesel Insignia we were in was flatout.
Next year, I'm taking the Mk 1 Tuscan and should have ample opportunity to go for it. I have the front splitter fitted, (although I think it may be mounted too far back in its current position) Will the back spoiler offer any more stability at hight speed? Would a Mk 2 bootlid with the small spoiler offer the same amount of downforce?

I've got the smaller boot spoiler on my Tuscan convertible.
She has regular trips to Germany.
Boot spoiler without front winglets or splitter was scary as hell so I had to get the front winglets fitted a Ne it was a great improvement.
I know your question was the other way round so not much help I suppose.

When I had my Tuscan mk1 (just sold it a couple of weeks ago) 
I fitted the mk1 S splitter and rear spoiler and I can categorically say that at speeds over 60/70mph it was much more stable. Many people are absolutely fine without it but there was a noticeable improvement after I fitted it. It just stopped the car jumping around as much at speed.

It just stopped the car jumping around as much at speed.Some years ago I had my Tuscan (Mk1 S) up to speeds where the change up lights were coming on in 5th... I can't tell you exactly how fast that was as my speedo sensor was broken at the time.
Stability was fine, this was with the roof off, and 150+ speeds were maintained for some time.
Biggest problem was one of my wipers actually broke and twisted on it's mounting!
I've since fitted SP wheel spacers and things have improved further, although I haven't had the opportunity to repeat such high speed driving.
