Next Door on the Scrounge!
Discussion
Hello Guys ( and Gals? ), this is an urgent request.
A couple of us 'S' types are having troubles with cracked cast iron exhaust manifolds and need replacements before our Alps trip commencing on Friday.
Does anybody on here possess or know where to get hold of spare ones?
The part no. is 73TF-9431-CA and was sourced from the 2.3/2.8 Cologne V6 as fitted to Cortina, Taunus & ?early Granada, LH manifold.
It is for the RH ( driver's side ) on the TVR S1.
I presume 280 Tasmin will be the same.
Any info or help will be greatly appreciated,
would hate to see these fellas miss out on a great trip.
Thanks,
Glen

Hi Mate..On the cologne the N/S was cortina 2.3..(Like rocking horse do do)..The O/S was a TVR engineered part..I bought a stainless pair off of Tim at ACT which in the great scheme of things are not that expensive..It might be your best option..Cheers...Ziga

The welds could of been a bit better but you dont really see them..(Not in mine at least)..You can be specific with Tim as he doesnt always see the finished article as they generally come from manufacturer...

Thanks for the feedback , yes I tried everywhere, the closest I got was a German place had one last April..
I was hoping somebody upgraded to stainless & had the old one lying at the back of their garage.
ACT lead time is 2 weeks, need them for Friday, the quest continues....
PS, Off Side is a Ford Cortina 2.3 V6 manifold, TVR ground the flanges to a wedge shape ( all good! ) so the lower leg clears the chassis rail.

The only other alternative is to find someone who can weld cast iron..Its not easy but can be done..Even if it gets you out of trouble for now...Ziga
Yep, we're gonna try that, the secret is to get plenty of heat into it before attempting the weld, then cool gradually. Hope it works for them, meanwhile I'm still searching as a back-up.Cheers Ziga, thanks,
Glen

I did have but they went a couple of week's back..Sorry not too familiar with the "S"..Does it share the same tight chassis design around the heads as the wedge?..If not then have you tried the capri manisfolds..They are easier to get hold of...ZigaYep it's fairly tight, this is with stuff removed for access
Are Capri manifolds the same as 2.8 Granada, TS79-****-**?
If so they are 3 cms too long & possibly the wrong angle. Would need downpipes modyfying.
But thanks for the suggestion, anything considered.

If you have an O/S off the car see if there is a TVR stamp on it..I suspect you have two of the most hard to find exhaust manifolds on the planet..Like me...Is there anywhere near you that can make exhaust's?..Cheers..Ziga

Hi Glen, on my usual evening ebay trawl while the wife watches the soaps i came across a sale of two n/s manifolds.
cant link to ebay for some reason but if you search for cologne v6 it is the first one up. unless i have the wrong end of the stick.

Thanks Marcus, but those are not the correct manifolds. It's these we need:
Ralph, thanks for your suggestion, I'll pass the info on to the two guys.
It's not for me, I'm up in Stockport, they are in Essex & Suffolk.
At the moment, the welding has been successful, so fingers crossed they can both make the trip, then sort out a permanent solution on return.
Cheers and thanks for your input.
Have a good BBWFest

Good news and (possibly) bad....
It looks like the manifolds on my old TVR are the same, but currently the passenger side (I think thats the one you need?) is not attached to the engine, it probably means its in the "piles of bits" in the boot/car. I'm 99.9% we still have everything that was on the car originally.
IF the guys are desperate for it this weekend I'll have a rummage tomorrow eve, if not then I'll hunt it out as and when I can for them.
