If so, which tablet, and how?

My Samsung D220 Notebook while brilliant for doing this is now getting a bit slow, and I would like to go for a tablet if I can still link one to my Marantz NA7004.

I'm not aware of tablets that have an optical or electrical digital out, they may exist I'm just not aware of any.

However I believe the Marantz has a USB input for audio which might work, certainly I know some Android tablets have been used with USB Dacs.

What are you playing on your notebook or tablet that you want to output to the Marantz? Could it be that using DNLA on the tablet might be a better solution?

If you can't find a tablet with SPDIF then a USB to SPDIF converter is an easy low cost solution.

If you have the budget I think it is definitely worth spending extra to get an asynchronous converter. I have one of these and its excellent imho http://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/vSeries/v-...

Well you cant get DTS sound out of SPIF. But I'm assuming you want the 5.1 of dolby etc.

USB to digital may work, but I doubt you would find a driver on Android for it.

Only way I can see of doing it would be to get a tablet running windows 8. But even then I'm sure the drivers would differ, because of the different chipset.

Thanks for the replies so far, however i may have missed the point - my Marantz already operates as a stand alone DAC, I'm just looking to see if I can use it as one with a tablet in the same way as I do with my netbook. I know the unit has an ipod/USB socket on the front but this is just a reader, the digital coax usb input is on the back.

Might just be a case of buying an MHL to USB converter.

So what do you play on your existing network or possible new tablet that you want to play through the Marantz. Using USB to connect the the rear USB digital in may work (the usb will be doing the same job as an optical connection in this scenario)

However depending on what to results you want to achieve I think there might be better ways of achieving what you want but until I know what you want I don't know.

This stems from a time before I acquired the Marantz and I was looking at an Arcam rDAC with a tablet (neither of which I had)- Arcam Tecnical Dept advised they were unaware of any tablet being able to transmit digitally like my netbook can - this seemed strange to ne as I though as long as there is a usb port or micro usb port then there should be no difference??? Nevertheless I bought the Marantz instead but still hanker after a tablet.

I'm just after a high quality digital coaxial connection from a tablet into the DAC
