Joined the dark side! 7D on way

I have resigned myself to the fact that the Olympus E5 that I ordered from BT is never going to show up, so I have ordered 7d with 50mm prime, 18 to 140 and 75 to 300. Was reluctant to switch to Cannon because of investment in Olympus, but E5 body is just to expensive unless it actually does arrive for the quoted price of £799. My wife is away this weekend so who's gonna stop me? Any recommendations for a flash?

The 7D is a very good camera. I suggest you try the built in flash before looking for separate units, it's fairly capable. If you still want a separate flash, the Canon 430EX II is very good.

If it's not too late, I would change your order. The 75-300 is not a very good lens, you would be better getting the 55-250, if the cost of the 70-300 is out of reach.

You wont regret getting the 7D.

You wont regret getting the 7D.

or better still stretch the budget a tad and get a 70-200mm f4

I agree, but the 70-200 is significantly more expensive than the 75-300, where the 55-250 will probably only be about £20 more expensive using Amazon as comparison.

The 55-250 is good but if you're using the 7D for fast action, the lack of USM focussing will get frustrating. I have the 7D and the 70-200 F4 (non IS) as it's a great combo.

I believe the 7D can use it's own flash to control a 430EX (or higher) wirelessly without needing any adapters or triggers so picking one up (along with a diffuser/reflector) will let you take lovely portraits with very little hassle.
