Does anyone know any decent switchable sports exhausts manufacturers.

Does retrofitting a sports exhaust void a Porsche warranty?

Thanks
Tim

Any non factory mod will invalidate the warranty.

You could retro fit an OEM PSE I guess, but if you are not bothered about a warranty you could do the bypass mod or "gundo hack"

Sounds like the PSE left open & sounds sweet!

Fitting one will not affect you making a claim unless they can prove the part you have fitted caused the fault.
Say if you needed a new headlight for example, they are not going to refuse this because you have a 3rd party exhaust.

So depends what you and others mean about warranty, of course you cannot renew your warranty with out a 111 OPC check and for that to pass your car has to be all oem parts.

I'm surprised you still have a Porsche Warranty on a 996. Surely it's too old now? I have a Porsche Warranty still running on my 996 but relates to new engine only. In that case you could put a new exhaust on as it doesn't affect the Warranty.

I have been researching the Gundy Hack, there seems to be two ways of doing it.

One way is joining the two pipes on the baffle together and the other being a pipe straight out the side of the baffle and connecting to the pipe.

I read on a post I found on here that different models need different hacks

My 996 is a 2002 facelift with the 3.6 engine, does anyone on here know which is the correct or best way and which is the best size pipe to achieve the best sound?

Thanks prof, great link

I'm sort of heading off on the Gundo route now. Just got to work out the correct way to do it now

Thanks

Well decided to get local garage to repair my damaged baffles on my PSE muffler. They said be easier and cheaper for me to take it off myself and bring it in. Not a problem I thought so car on stands and first drama was one of the exhaust clamp is rusted on and then one of the long screws on the back of muffler rusted away. Managed to remove the 3 small ones so have decided to take car down to Garage and pay extra. I always find with jobs I do I need that one more tool or implement to finish it off!!

Think I'm going to run mine up the shop. I am practical minded but like yourself I always seem to be a tool short or can't get to a nut etc.. Plus I am very impatient and like things done pronto, I can take it in today and it will be done tonight when I finish work. (I hope!)

Does anyone know the correct hack for my 996?

2002 C2 3.6 facelift

Is it best to join the inlet and outlet pipes together

Or Is it best to cut a hole in the muffler (the corner where there is the circular bit that looks like it was made for this) and connect to the outlet pipe

Then do I use 1", 1.5", 1.75" or 2". I want my car to sound meaty but not Chav'y and droney. I had an M3 E92, that had a Milltek system and that was amazing, perfect sound at all speeds.

From Internet research 1.75" seems to be recomended, some feedback would be great.

And what is the difference?

On a 996 3.6 either method would work. ( on a 3.4 only the inlet to outlet method works).
I think 1.5 inch pipe inlet to outlet is seen as the preferred size. If you go for the corner to outlet then you will need a larger pipe, 2.25 or 2.5 inch, I think.

I see you are in the Midlands, try zorstec as they have done many 996 exhaust hacks.

Agreed on the 1.5" pipe.

Just remember the bigger the bypass pipe the louder it will be.

Thanks for all your help guys, it's been very useful and helped me to decide what to do.

My car is booked in the shop tomorrow, I have sprayed all the baffle clamp nuts with penetrating oil tonight so hopefully there's no need for the garage to butcher the clamps. Going to take the baffles to a specialist welder to make the bypass between the inlet and outlet, return the baffles to the garage by the afternoon so they can be refitted.

I have decided to go for the 1 1/2" bypass, sounds the safest and most recommended option.

All being well I will be driving a great sounding car by tomorrow night, I will keep you all posted.

I've got that Christmas feeling, I can't wait to get it done and get driving

Bypass done, one word 'amazing'

What a difference such a small job makes.

Does any one know how to upload photos on here from an iPhone?

I have some pictures of the baffles mod'ed up

Sussed it, we used 1 1/2 stainless , job took about 2 hours and I paid the welding guy £50 and a drink. The garage charged me naff all, I know the guy who runs it. Took him 15 min to remove and same to put back on.

Best few quid I've spent for ages

Just got the car back and the smile is back again. I gave them 2 new tyres to change but as they were taking time doing the exhaust properly they didnt get to change them so gave me the car back, didnt charge and i said i would bring it back next Weds. I was wary taking car to a non-Porsche one but having repaired my A3 V6 gearbox a few years ago after it lunched itself then i thought i would give them a go.

Bit late for the OP, but I found these guys when looking for the switchable systems for my 996. Sold the car before I got to try one, but they sound effective in the video.
