Stay with me on this one. I've been having a go at selling my 996 recently and to be honest I've found it to be a depressing affair indeed.
However, I've had a bit of a brain wave. The reason for advertising the car is purely lack of use, less than 1000 miles in a year is hard to justify, but I could justify keeping it if I were to use it for hillclimbs.
I'm looking for advise on which mods will give me the best value upgrades to the car and if anyone can recommend any particular manufactures and what there experience of the products has been. For the record my car is a '98 3.4 but does have the LSD option and M030 pack. I intend to run it in the road going production sports car class which entails no cages, stripped interiors or non original engine size.
As a start I was thinking of uprating the water pump and fitting a low temperature thermostat and if I can find one to fit an electric water pump and cooling fan combo which could be switched on or off independently from the engine.
Other changes I'm considering would be to the exhaust and air intake systems, dampers, anti roll bars, bushes and possibly a baffled sump.
Any thoughts, pointers and general advise would be greatly received. Thanks.

No point in that car, you would be up vs f430 and GT3's in that class.
Depends if you want to do it for fun and not worry about being last.
As for mods if you do try, lots of camber, r spec tyres and a good clutch.
Exhaust and stuff would be pointless imo.

I'd be ok with the car, the class has sr'r which look at power to weight ratio and then apply a bogie time in the same way as the classic car classes do. Thanks for the input.Depends if you want to do it for fun and not worry about being last.

That does not give you a time advantage in your class though does it Vs say the 996gt3 which does most of the rounds in that class.
I know what your saying but the fact is in the championship that I'm going to enter there simply aren't any gt3's etc. it comprised mostly of lotus Elise / esprit's, the odd tvr with the main body being made up of 2 seater jap roadsters. On the rare occasion that a Ferrari enters Doune for example they are never competitive probably through the fear of bouncing of the Armco barriers.
To get back to my original post, I'm not looking to get into the ins and outs of why I shouldn't bother doing anything with the 996. I'm looking for pointers of how to improve it within reason for track purposes if anyone can assist?
I've hillclimbed various single seaters in the past which although being great fun they are very limited in there use in that you can't really use them for anything other than sprints or hill climbs.
I would like to use the 996 for a bit of fun on the hills but equally I would like to have the option of doing the odd track day for example.

I've been competing in sprints and hill climbs for about 12 years now and have used a variety of different cars. The biggest single mod you can do imo next to driver training is to fit a set of 1b tyres if the regs permit it.
Regarding engine mods, have a chat with someone like Hartech or Parr who use them in competition.

If I was the OP assuming the general condition of the car is good I'd just enter it as it is or possibly with some list 1b tyres and see how I get on.
You will be at a disadvantage to the GT3's but it still good fun I used to Sprint an M3 CSL and managed to beat the 997.2 GT3 RS I competed against once and kept him honest on a number of other occasions.

I'm looking to enter the Scottish Sprint and hillclimb championship, the Sprint championship has always run a bogie time system so even a mini could win the championship.
To give some background I competed on the hills and Sprints for 12 years or so in various single seaters, sbd engined Westfields and various mod saloons during which I was fortunate to win classes and have top 3 ftds. So basically I'm not a novice to it.
Where I am a novice is tuning 3.4 996s hence the reason for my first post. Fundamentally I own the car and would like to get the most out of it that I can within reason, and I couldnt care less if I'm thrown in with gt3s. There aren't any competing up here anyway.
Being blunt about things, in the past I've thrown silly money at the single seaters that I've owned and its not a road I'm going to go back down. I want to put add a few performance mods on the 996 and have a bit of fun. I would appreciate if anyone could share their experiences of any mods they have made to their 996s to give me a starting point. Thanks

as has been said, camber and sticky tires and see what it feels like
you have a few options for more camber, GT3 LCA or RSS ones.
After that the skys the limit, I would not throw money at it as I still think it's the wrong car for the job.
but weight loss would be next, main items being seats, exhaust, battery and rear seats.
I don't know the rules up north, so you may say taking weight out is pointless.
Normally the fastest car in class wins :-)
but if you can add a load of weight and get a better trade off in time bonus who knows lol.
