Owned 1989 Espirit and experienced problems during very hot weather shifting gears, especially into reverse. Understand that newer years offer steel braided clutch hose to eliminate problems. Anyone know if this is case and does 1997 Espirit feature new steel hose? Seriously considering 1997. Any other problems I should know with 1997?

Al 4 cylinder cars had the red plastic hose which balloons under pressure in hot weather giving the problems you experienced, the V8s have steel tube.
You can get a stainless steel braided hose kit from www.sjsportscars.co.uk for around £30 which solves the problem and it's easy to fit
