I got up nice and early ,sandwiches and flask all made up , looking forward to a good day out to catch up with the lads .

I got there it was empty then after a few phone calls I realised it was the wrong track confused

The track I went to was Blyton not Bedford ,so I did a 100 mile trip for nothing ..

What did worry me is the oil pressure gauge reading zero on idle .. help would be appreciated .nerd

Start questioning whether the oil brand you keep quoting is capable of standing up to the heat/stress in the engine?

So oil being squeezed & thrashed in bearings isn't stressed?

Change the oil for 10w 60 long life synthetic and see if the problem goes away, its a lot cheaper than a rebuild Daz

It's happened to me, turned out to be a faulty oil pressure sender, quite common. If its was really zero you would see the oil pressure light coming on, which I bet your not

Does it come in with ignition on but engine off. Start engine and watch it go out.

I don't think so, its an oil pressure switch, so with the engine stopped there is no pressure so the light is on. When you start the engine, the pressure builds and with luck gets to the point that the switch turns off and the light goes off, indicating that there is oil pressure.
