Guys

I'm looking for a way to get an additional HD signal from my Sky+ box to another room. I know the RF out can be utilised, but that's not HD is it?

Someone must have done this before, but the question is; How?

thanks

Pete

I should add that the 2nd room is around 20m away, so wanted to avoid an HDMI run if at all possible.

thanks

20m is too long for a HDMI cable. A splitter and then some sort of HDMI over ethernet device is what you want.

£35 on ebay for 25m

Alternativly get the HDMI over Cat 5 baluns and run network cabling

20m over HDMI is ambitious. I'd be very surprised if you can get 1080HD over 25m. SD will work, which is probably why those cables are available but it won't help the OP

HDMI cables have improved dramatically in the last year.

I would'nt plaster it in, but it might be worth a try.

No, no cables currently running, but am having an extension beginning tomorrow so can run anything necessary.

I quite like the idea of an HDMI splitter and then a Cat5 balun, I think I'll give that a go, unless you guys think HDMI is the better option for a first attempt?

If your free to run what you want, I would at least go for 2 or 3 CAT5/6 cables and a coax.

The coax is by far the easiest way to control the remote sky box.

If you want to try the HDMI option, feel free to, still put in the other stuff as well as a back up.

And a good solution if you want to have two completely independent sky boxes.

A bit rubbish if you record something on one box and want to watch it in the other room though. Even if going multiroom I would keep both boxes in one location and run the CAT5s to the new TV so you can access both boxes.

Don't hold your breath, but Sky are getting ready to do something with sharing!

A new option is starting to appear on the HD boxes that I work with called something like 'allow sharing'

From chat in the industry, it look like in the near future you will be able to stream recordings from one box to another.

Just need to be on the same network.

Should be cool when it gets released.
