3.8 RS to 458

I'm seriously tempted to make the switch. Anyone done this? A wise move? The 458 looks electric on track, but do they crumble? A black 458 looks as sexy as they come

I have a mate that has one...he also has an RS. He uses the 458 exclusively on the road, never tracks it like his other pork.

They do look amazing in black...tough choice to have.

I was thinking a bit more about this and if you're after the flappy paddle/digital experience rather than old school analogue of the RS, then perhaps the new 991 GT3 does this, moves the game on (even) and for a lot less? If it's the Ferrari experience you're after then I imagine you can't go far wrong with the 458...and a change/chop is often fun.

Black 458s are rather lovely...

Mrdemon, I conveniently overlooked that 2011 test result /10.gif, and the OP did not include a Cayman R in his choice.

Goes to show that these COTY reviews attempt to objectively review things but end up losing an aspect of the drive that you can't objectify. Cayman R is undoubtedly an excellent weapon, 3.8 RS even more so, but a 458 would make your hands sweat more, that is my test of a supercar!!

Ferrari were kind enough to invite me to Millbrooke last month, to drive the 458 on the Alpine/bowl etc and I was very, very impressed, I seriously considered pulling the trigger on this car.

Purposely , two days later, I did a track day in my RS and immediately I knew I simply couldn't do it. The RS is all the car I will ever need and as good as the 458 was, for me, it simply doesn't push the buttons that the RS does....

No I was making a point, just because the RS beats a 458 in a mag does not make it a better car.

The cayman R beat them both but I would still have the 458, so you missed the point I was making about magazine tests and buying a car because of them.

458 imo is still in another league to the RS, but it's only that ie, my opinion.

so if you have a real opinion, make it and leave the personal comments out of it ;-p

Crumble? Ferraris are probably more robust than Porsche nowadays, they certainly offer a better warranty
