On 18 August 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain, 19 year-old Pilot Officer Peter Simpson, under attack from German Dornier bombers, had to make an emergency landing in his Hawker Hurricane on the golf course at the RAC Country Club, Woodcote Park, Epsom.

To commemorate this occasion, pilot Peter Kynsey will perform an eight-minute air display over the Woodcote Park estate in a Hawker Hurricane on Wednesday 3 July at 13:00.

Should be good, unfortunately I can't be there frown

Shame I can't as well.

I'll have to dig out my copy of Alfred Price's 'Hardest Day' to refresh my memory of this incident, as there must have been a reason at the time why he didn't make for the much more open space of Epsom Downs racecourse next door for an emergency landing....

It doesn't really seem an event worthy of such a commemoration. And why is it on 3 July not 18 August?
