pros they don't crack and they have a heated screen. Don't go for the cheaper hoods there is only 1 glass upgrade I would recommend. pm me and I can tell you who the suppliers are.

cons:- They do restrict access to the engine bay.

Have you experience of 997 rear windows coming apart from the seals?

Apparently a common problem and one that Porsche have released an upgraded part for.

I have not done this to my 02 Boxster but I have looked into this some.

The replacement tops with glass rear windows change the shape of the top. The window is smaller and positioned differently. The presence of the glass window makes putting the top in the service position harder and some shops are reluctant to work on cars fitted with an aftermarket glass rear window because of this.

When the rear window in my 02 Boxster's top cracked I had a new window installed by a quality upholstery shop. The window was of a very heavy plastic and has held up well, but due to the exposure to the sun -- the car gets parked outside rain or shine -- it is getting dull and I'm thinking about a new rear window. I'm not sure if a 3rd window can be installed in this top or the top -- at least the canvas portion (which is still in fine shape as is the underlying rubber sheeting) -- will have to be replaced. However, I almost certainly will not replace it with an aftermarket top with a glass window due to the negatives (at least in my opinion) I listed above.

Oh, before I replace the window I will have the local dealer try to clear up the window. I've been told the detailer there can work miracles with foggy plastic rear windows. Worth a shot.

BTW, have you tried Renovo plastic window polish ?
Ive done mine , on a ten year old window,and its come up pretty good.
requires a bit of elbow grease...especially on the inside, which is a bit awkward to get at, hence previous owners tend to not ddo it.
but it might be worth attenpting, and will definately save you £££s on dealer charges

I fitted an '04 glass window top and frame to my '02 2-3 yrs ago. This is the best solution IMO but it was at least 2x the cost of having one of the aftermarket glass window tops fitted to the original frame but I have no regrets. Given the depressingly low values of 986 Boxsters in the UK these days, you might find that the breakers are charging less for '03 and '04 tops but you might have to wait for one to turn up in an acceptable colour. I think I paid £1k plus pallet delivery. The later '05 onwards tops do not fit.

The dealer/detailer will have to do the Boxster rear window polishing. I have rotator cuff issues in both shoulders and cleaning the inside of the windshield is hard enough for me. At the same time the Boxster rear window gets polished I'm having the original dull headlight polished too. The service manager says the detailer can bring this old dull pitted headlight back to like new condition.
