as above -

will they tollerate:

1)Tubi rear boxes only?
2) Is it 'Navaro' performance upgrade to 420bhp or any other approvable
3) Can the ride be mad more compliant / comfortable - little on the jarring side?!

Some replies:

1. Tubi rear boxes invalidate the manufacturer warranty (only lasts first 12 months) but are fine vis a vis the dealer warranty (years 2 and 3 and beyond). This was confirmed to me by Graypaul when I asked back in early 2002. So if buying a used car should not be a problem, but make sure you get the original boxes as part of the deal.

2. No idea. I suspect not. The only performance guys I know of who are factory authorised are Michelotto and they specialise in Ferrari, I believe.

3. I had a huge problem with my car until the tracking was done. Apparently tracking does not form part of the PDI and new Ferraris are generally toe in and Maseratis are generally toe out (I bought my car new). My tracking was 9 degrees toe out for 18 months despite my complaints. When the tracking was sorted, the car was amazingly compliant. So, suspect this is likely to be the problem, not the suspension set up, which is spot on IMO.

many thanks for reply, and judging by your occupation, I couldnt get better advice!

I have yet to buy a car, however having driven one for an hour it was only the ride (and wandering) + lack of engine character from the exhaust that let down the experience (we will ignore the electronic throttle mapping.....)

I understood that the cars came standard with a 3 yr warranty - which itself is extendable under the Maserati Trident banner (for a trifling 3 or £4k / yr!)

I have no wish to fall foul of warranty restraints and need to be sure as to what can and cant be done.

So, you are saying that Graypaul Maserati state Tubi rear boxes can be fitted after 1st year on any year 3200 without endangering engine and transmission cover?

Are these boxes really that good? - Does it in any way cheapen the character of the car by being a bit too 'EVO?!'

I am simply looking to get a lot more Italian character from the car, whilst driving hard through the gears, windows up - and pleasantly subdued but characterful on the cruise - is this realistic with this one mod?

many thanks

David

I suspect the tracking was out. I had exactly that problem on country roads until the tracking was sorted. The way to find out is to check whether the inside of the tyre has less tread than the outside. This is a give away as to whether the tracking is out.

Correct, but most 3200's will now be out of warranty. You can get warranty cover significantly cheaper than the prices you mention. Email me offline if interested.

I am saying that is what I was told by a salesman who used to work for Graypaul in 2002. He made contact with the warranty provider for years 2 and 3 and they said no problem - they did not put it in writing. My car is with Maranello as we speak and no mention or issue has been made of the fact that my car has Tubi rear boxes on it. If I had decatted it, then that would be another matter.

In any event, I can't see how they could logically resist a claim because the back boxes had been replaced. That would fall foul of the unfair contract terms legislation at the very least. I am not bothered about it.

Personally I think they are that good. I wanted to get rid of the car as I was bored with it. But the Tubi exhaust has opened up a new chapter in the love affair, so to speak. Now the car has soul. Not sure what you mean by too EVO. It is not just about looks - the note now has bark. You have to go and hear one in the flesh.

IMHO, it is the best thing available short of decatting the car.

I believe there is one forum member who bought another forum members car that may have been to mod factory and now has 420/430+bhp. Apparently completely undetectable. Think it may have been done in switzerland though i might be making that bit up!

The car was fettled in Italy i believe.

I'm in coversation with a work colleague who's father worked for Ferrari/Maserati racing team about possible upgrades / mods at the moment, including performance hikes, wheels, exhausts etc. When I get anything I'll post it on here.

At the moment I'm seriously considering sodding off to italy on holiday in the summer and getting the car popped up to 450bhp

> lone granger - if you want a huge pile of notes on buying a 3200 mail me offline and I'll post what I ahve - I've posted much info here before and I don't want to keep clogging the board up!

Also - check mine and the other owners profiles for info on costs / running experiences etc.
