Hey Chaps,

Just renewed my warranty on my E61 M5 (the two years free is coming to an end.)

My car - ,57 plate always under warranty since new, all BMW stamps, 51,700 miles.

Comprehensive with 0 excess Monthly cost is £86.

Good tip here - the emergency rescue added another 10 quid a month, but even if you don't take it you still get roadside rescue and a tow to the nearest dealer included.

All round quite pleased.

However - WARNING - I did ask about track days - if you do do one and they find out it definitely invalidates the warranty. I then asked - "err - what about the BMW organised ones I keep getting invited to?" Instant confusion and they are phoning me back.

Cheers,

Bigglez

That is a cracking price mate well done. If you keep it on monthlies it will remain like that even when it ticks over the 60k mark and then each 10k miles thereafter etc...

At the last BMW Trackday I went to, folk removed their numberplates whilst out on track.

I don't advocate this.

EDIT: actually, the CSL boys all have extended warranties, have modded cars and attend numerous trackdays.

You need a dealer like Elms that are sensible and not so rigid in disputing claims for engine issues when you have a modified mirror housing.

Contigo - exactly. although with my mileage this won't be for a couple of years.

Update on BMW track days!

If you go on a BMW track organised track day you would invalidate your warranty. Nuts eh?!

Last I heard I believe they can download the data from the car and check if you've been on one if you make a claim - so number plates wouldn't help.

Perhaps BMW should actually be told about what their track days mean - though I doubt they'd give a monkeys.

Carlton has it bang on. My Dealer will not dispute the claim in fact last time they did the work before even having it approved because they knew it was fine. It's all down to how well you know the dealer!

That can't be right, how would they be able to do that?

I know most do but i fail to see the justification for track days invalidating warranties

Utterly no idea - it's in a thread elsewhere on here - it's similar to how they check if launch control has been used I imagine. Look for data of a car going round and round the same place under full acceleration and breaking?

I imagine 90% of dealers wouldn't bother to check anyway.

The data would look no different to how it would look from some of the cruisers cars that go round and round the town centre all night hehe

They can download the launch data for sure and check the number of times it has been used etc but they would have a job proving you had been on a track! It doesn't store any GPS data etc....

How did you get it that low? Is it just because it's a 57 plate? My 07 plate has fewer miles than yours and comes out at £128 a month (without the emergency cover.)

//edit: Ah, it's probably because it's a renewal rather than a new policy.

Did you get the quote from the site or by phoning them? The price on the site bears no relation to the price you'll get when you actually call I've found.

I think the key thing as to why mine is low cost is that the car has never ever been out of BMW warranty during its life - so there's no period in which problems could have built up I guess?

Oh - and I actually phoned them for a quote on your car Gaz and I'm sure it was the same price as my car now

I went with named component in the end as it was a good compromise, I couldn't see much difference between the two policies tbh and as long as it covers the main components then who cares?

Yeah, the quote was from the site. I'll perhaps give 'em a ring when I'm a few months in smile

It might be worth doing it now - I don't know whether the longer the car is out of warranty matters or not - but I did get different quotes for cars that had been out of one for a while..

Took a new Mondial insurance out 3 months ago for my 2006 E60 M5 with 31,000 miles with FBMWSH. Fully comprehensive cover with £100 excess on any one claim costs me £105 / month with no road side assist other than being collected and being taken to the nearest dealer. Two weeks ago the adaptive lighting gave up, turned out to be one of the motors inside the headlight. Had it replaced at my local main dealer along with one of the two tone horns that also had died. I was told that the Headlight alone was £870+vat. The whole job cost me the £100 for the excess. Very pleased and so easy, dealer sorted everything direct with Mondial, I just turned up on the day.
