Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me out.
I am currently doing up my house and I wanted some help with the tv point setup.
I think it simplest if I explain what I want to do first.
I want 5 tv points.
In one of these I want to be able to watch and record both freeview and freesat - so watch and record at the same time - although I will only record one thing at a time - so 2 feeds in total.
At all other points I want to be able to watch freeview and freesat.
Can someone tell me if I need to run 2 coax to each location?
2 coax to the recording location?
Or can I just run one coax to each location?
I also want to run cat 6 cable to each tv point so that I can access the smart tv functions and watch iplayer 4od etc.
Does anyone have a simple explanation of what cable I need to run where and what equipment I need.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have been stuck on this for a while and got nowhere....
Thanks!
Dominic

If you want to record on Freesat and watch freeview or vice versa that is ok over one cab.
In fact watching one and recording another from freeview is possible. It is watching one Freesat while recording another Freesat that will need two I dependant feeds direct from the dish, you can split satellite signals easily.

atSimple answer is twice as much as you think you need, especially the Cat6.
As Vex says, the Freeview co-ax can be split in the room, but that's an aesthetics question. Two sat leads per TV install point is sensible, and I'd be very tempted to run at least two Cat6, if not four, to cater for the Xbox/PS4 sitting under the box, and the NAS sitting in the network cabinet under the eaves.
Hi,
Thanks for your answers.
I dont think there will be anything else apart from a tv at most of these points as they are in bedrooms and currently wont even be used, but I thought it would be a good idea to put them in now whilst the place is being renovated.
So would I be ok in your opinions if I ran 4 cat 6 and 2 satellite to the main viewing location, and then a single satellite and single cat 6 to each additional location.
Honestly I am trying to cut costs at the moment as things are all running out of control.
I just want to know if the above will let me do what I want.
These will all run to one point in the house, and I will then bring in the feeds from the satellite and aerial to that point.
Can anyone advise me as to what equipment I need satellite wise, and also what equipment I need at the central location?
Thanks again everyone!
Dom

If you want to distribute satellite from a single location you will need a multiswitch which requires four separate feeds from a quad lnb on the dish.
You can combine satellite and terrestrial onto a single coax cable with a diplexer, they have to be separated with a diplexer wall socket.
A Freeview recorder only requires a single aerial input but Freesat requires two lnb inputs from a dish or multiswitch.
Have a look at the Satcure site. The technical section is very informative.
A little question to ponder. When will we have an internet connection capable of taxing a CAT6 network? So why install double network cables?

From my PoV, it's so that the switch lives where it ought to, in the cupboard, rather than breeding, and having lots of little switches in every room.randlemarcus said:

So thanks for that...
I will probably go with 2 to the main tv area and 2 to the computer area and a single to others.
Thanks for all of your help guys.
It has been really helpful!
