They are also too small to actually see any quality in them.

PS. The Blue gate is photoshopped anyway.

This cropped up a while back - entrants had to hand over all rights to the Beeb!

There are some attractive ones there, some easy, some difficult, some thought-provoking, some you'd hang on a wall, some you wouldn't. What makes one photo the best?

I voted for Blue Gate because it made me look twice at something you'd normally walk straight past. Nice colours too.

Would still like to see the photo's as larger images, shame the BBC never does that, only puts up little ones.

"Old age" is the best one, but I would say that as it's very "Anton Corbijn"

One mans art is another man's junk... perhaps we can be a little more constructive than simply ?

I'd have been very happy to take 1,2,5,8,11 & 12

The rest I'm not keen on.

re gate pic. sorry. how about; done to death cliche with no composition or personal artistic flair.

That's why I try only to pick things I can say something nice about and let the rest go. The great thing is - you don't have to look at it or buy it.

you will only offer an opinion when you think something is nice?

how terribly sad.

photography is totally subjective - i, you or anybody can say anything we like about any of it, doesn't mean anything other than how it affected us personally.

it's a shame you feel that way imho. much better to be honest about how things turn us on or off.

i'm sure many people will hate my work and i'm more than happy for them to say so, it's nothing personal, it just means they don't get it.

Hmm, you're argumentative today aren't you? Lots of people post all sorts of pictures, some of which fail dismally. I could go round posting or saying 'that's a cliched load of crap' but it would only piss people off, now wouldn't it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to offer constructive criticism if asked, and that is how we learn. But as you might discover, there is a world of difference between constructive criticism and simple slagging off. Anybody can do the latter.

Rather shallow; I'd expect better from someone here.

Certainly agree with the first bit. We can also say what we like, but the way you did it also criticised me, and not very cleverly.

Judgement is a wonderful thing.

I went to your profile to see some examples, but none was present, nor any links. Happy to check them out though: try me.

And of course, in the event of any dispute I win automatically 'cos I've got gazillions of posts and you're only on 30

Right, shall we stop bickering and hand this back to Rico?

oooookay.
i expressed my distaste for the blue gate, yellow leaves.

you asked me to be more clearer - i was. you suggested it'd be better, had i nothing constructive to say, i follow you're lead and not say anything.

i offered my opinion on your suggestion.

to be clear, i wasn't being personal with regards to you. when i said it was sad, i meant it was sad, not that you were sad.i am not bickering.
i have my opinion of the blue gate picture and my opinion of people not wanting to upset other artists with expressing how they feel about other people's work.

there is no right or wrong in any of this.

but if i think it's shite, i'll say it's shite.

nothing personal, just doesn't work for me.

I think they all have some merit.

Can't believe they made their minds up on one photo though (haven't read the article).

If any were taken with Nikon gear they should be discounted immediately.
