Doors unlocking & bonnet opening themselves?

A strange thing has started to happen on my car, doors unlock and bonnet pops open.

It happened a few times and I thought I was at fault, but I made 100% sure I did not hit a button walking away from the car. Upon my return, doors unlocked and bonnet open??!!

Is this a common issue, or does anyone know if it is possible to inadvertently reprogramme something?

If you keep the key in your pocket its a common problem for the button to get inadvertantly pressed. Later keys are better.

Yep. Will be the key in your pocket. Common problem and drives me mad. OPC can desensitise the key which helps a little.

If you are talking about Gen 1 9x7 keys, you can buy a repair kit - a new set of buttons, which are much more difficult to operate accidentally. Drove me mad too, so I bought a set for mine, and can happily keep the key in my trouser pocket.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to where I could buy those would you?

997tt is far and away the best car I have ever owned (quick, comfy, reliable(ish), much torque etc). However the issue with the keys drives me mad. It needs a tracker etc to keep the insurance company happy but spends much of it's time unlocked due to a basic design flaw.

I thought it was just my keys.

For a car that is so well sorted in so many ways, it seems hard to believe that this problem did not arise once, or twice in testing.

I keep my car in an open garage and have a fitted cover it to stop the birds sh****ng on it, so the key goes in my pocket and while I fit the cover the boot invariably pops; so infuriating!

You can alos use the diagnostic tester to change the sensitivity on the bonnet at least and I guess probably the doors too.

The amount of time you need to press the button before it activated can be changed from something like 0.3 seconds to 1.1 seconds. There are 5 options I think.

Mine was on the shortest and used to pop open all the time. Tom at 911Virgin changed it to the longest and it never happens now

My previous car, 2005 997, had this problem when new but resolved by OPC. I understood that there was a workshop campaign to set button delay to maximum.

Any OPC - about £35, which is expensive for 2-3 small pieces of plastic and a rubber membrane, but it works. There are different kits for 2 and 3 button remotes, so I won't give you the part number of the one I bought, which was for my Cayman.

I tried reprogramming the activation time as suggested in the Technical Bulletin, but it made s0d all difference.
