I know this might be a bit of a long shot (with the budget I have set myself to buy one anyway!) but does anyone have or know of anyone selling a usable Chimaera with MOT for 5k? I understand for this money it will be far from perfect- BUT I have this money burning a hole in my pocket if anyone is considering letting one go! Worth a try maybe, but we will see!

I think if you buy one for 5k, even with an mot, I think that you will need more money very soon or straight away, I know they are out there, I bought one, but I am lucky to be in the trade and have been relatively fortunate with the car but it has not been without its problems (first 260 miles on the back of a recovery truck, and loads of running issues). be careful though as a 6or 7 grander can come with its fair share of problems. If the chassis is bad you are looking at a minimum of £1500 then all the plus, plus, pluses of suspension, steering and anything else that is required. I can fully understand your desires, but TVR ownership is something that requires some research and patience for the right car ( unless you travel 300 miles and buy it cos looked nice). If it must be TVR and the money is burning a hole, then maybe a wedge or an s series would get into the tvr fold until you can afford to trade up to a Chim
Good luck with your search, and a certain auction site may be just what you need.

Why have you not sold your car yet ?

If you buy a 5k car you will spend another 5k getting it sorted ! save a bit more and buy the one with the crazy wheels .tongue out

What about a v8 wedge or Tvr s2/s3?

Plenty around for the 5k you've got.

I have been keeping my eye on that certain auction site! I paid £8200 for my previous 99 model, and to be honest it was pretty much spot on. The chassis was good, interior and rear screen were perfect. The mileage was a little high compared to some at 60k, but it was a very good car!
I am looking for something cheaper and obviously not as clean as my previous one. I'm not really looking for a 'keeper' this time round, simply something cheaper with MOT to use until my ongoing project is finished, IF I manage to find one...

I like the S2/S3 but everyone I have seen has a V6 unless anyone knows of any with the RV8 for sale? I would prefer another Chimaera really IF it is actually possible for 5k that is!

The only problem with that is once your project is finished what do you do with the chim?.
They are only cheap, and I mean £5k cheap, is because they require work and when you come to sell it on needing this work and more as the mot and tax may have expired, it will be worth a lot less and unfortunately you will lose money
If you managed to up your budget to around £7500-£8500 you will get a lot more for money.
There are a couple of sorted ones for sale within that budget as said above, and there is also 500 on the bay!.
As I said earlier good luck and I hope you are lucky and find a good one within your budget.

I've had loads of interest but no viewings. My location doesn't help.
It needs a new owner I've hardly used used it in the last 3 years.
I get the feeling buyers prefer to buy a basic car, spend loads of money on it getting them reliable. Then buy an act smooth elbow and post on here the car feels faster frown

The engine alone must owe me 4-5k. The Ecu was 2k with set up.

Will see what happens

It was the location for me. 8 hours on the train from the South East. If you want to leave it over my place to sell it you can do.

I believe you're correct on the modded car value prognosis.

That must mean mines worth about 2.5K wink

Put enough cheeky offers in and I'm sure you'll get one for close to your budget. Put a Wanted advert in the PH classifieds. It'll be there a long time after the mods take your thread down. wink

Ben

You need to locate it somewhere that is more accessible. You're a long way down in the UK.
