Donnington/Castle Coombe or Goodwood?
Discussion
Hi all – looking for some advice/ feedback on some tracks.
Me and Dad are planning on taking the Porsche and have drawn up a shortlist of 3 possible candidates:
Donnington
Goodwood
Castle Coombe.
We've been to Goodwood a couple of years ago when we had the 944 and was great fun, though I read recently on here someone didn’t get too many runs out on the track during the day due to the large amount of queuing they had to do (when we went it was a relatively small group of cars there). Is this true?
We’d plan on going on a weekend for a full day (open pit lane). Has anyone been to the above tracks? If so what do you think of them, and which one do you think is best?
Many thanks
Phil

For me, it almost depends on where you live. I never took my last car round Goodwood because it measured up at 106dB and whilst I do love the track, noise is a real issue and it isn't forgiving!
Donnington is great with fast bends, a good surface, gradient changes and some hard braking points, plus garages if it rains.
Castle Combe is my local circuit and I love it. I was there yesterday with MSE and the sun shone, I destroyed my tyres, wrecked the brakes and went home smiling. There is plenty of room to "exercise" a 944, so don't write off Combe on that basis.
Find somewhere easy(ish) to get to and get out and have a good day!

I haven't done Goodwood yet, but given the choice between Combe or Doninington, I'd do Donnington every single time.
The trouble with Combe is that, like many circuits in the country, it's an old airfield, and that makes it all a bit 2D. The Z axis (literally) adds another dimension to a track, for me anyway.
Also, the run-offs are terrible at Combe, so you have to be very careful on corners like Quarry, Tower or Camp. The run-offs at Donington are pretty respectable, and you'd be far less likely to hit something should you find yourself leaving the black stuff. That just gives you that peace of mind and lets you push a bit harder.

I think the only sensible thing for you to do is try both.

Dad would need a lot of Brave Pills, he's rather nervous but also excited about taking it on track already, let alone on two tracks! I think We'll probably go for Donnington. It's a longer drive by about 1hr, but looks like a nice open circuit with quite a bit of run off should the worst happen. Now just got to book it!
You'd have to try hard to bend a car at Donny. I've sent mine off the craner curves at nearly 90mph in the wet and still only ended up maybe 4m into the gravel trap.
I'd planned on doing all of the National circuit evenings with BaT this summer but have missed all of them thanks to wrecking my car constantly since taking up stupid drifting :/ Need to get back on soon, withdrawal is setting in.

Donington if you worried about bending car and has some good 3D character. Flows nicely on a bike
Coombe: very friendly and actually technical and hard to get a good lap. Nail it and you'll love it.
Goodwood. My personal least liked as it is dangerous and Madgewick WILL have me on day... :scared: Many places you can have a big one.
